Teen Talk: Weekend reviews: A little bit of something for all types

I have come to realize that this is my last column and that there are so many bands out there that people may want to know about.

I have decided that I want to review bands and some new music that is out there.

I searched Myspace and PureVolume and I got some input from my musically inclined friends. I hope I have come up with a good enough variety to satisfy everyone’s tastes and end on a good note.

I want to start with a newer but known young woman of the country genre of music, Miranda Lambert. She should be the envy of every woman everywhere.

Her new album, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is one of my favorite albums. She is strong-willed and also has a sense of humor. Her voice is that of true country. I love to listen to her in the car and sing along. One song that will get you going is called "Dry Town" about, well, a dry town. It’s an entertaining song that you’ll love to sing along to.

"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is an excellent album to listen to for any kind of mood. A definite must-have for the ladies.

For you "pop-punk" fans, The Starting Line’s newest album "Direction," came out July 31

If you have ever been a Starting Line fan, you will like this new album.

I haven’t heard the whole thing yet but from what I have heard, it is pretty good.

The first single off it is called "Island." You can definitely hear the group’s roots, but it has matured since its last release, which was a few years ago. I can’t wait to hear the whole album!

In a little turn of the tables, two groups that should be checked out would be Chromeo of Montreal and Tommie Sunshine of Brooklyn.

They are two very talented techno artists. Chromeo’s song "Needy Girl" is one of my all-time favorite songs.

Tommie Sunshine is a one-man remixing machine. He is very talented in remixing anything and everything. His work is featured on movie soundtracks and in clubs.

The artists should be heard and enjoyed. Their music is stuff that you can’t hate _ it just makes you feel good.

Speaking of turntables, Linkin Park’s new album "Minutes to Midnight" is amazing. I really expected nothing less from the group, and I don’t think I will ever think bad of it. I have been a fan of Linkin Park since I was 13, and the group continues to amaze me. "Minutes to Midnight" is a very political album, however. Members point out some not-so-obvious situations through their lyrics. Another definite must-have in the collection.

Two under-the-radar need-to-know bands would have to be Lydia and Making April. These two indie rock bands will be the next big things. I have been a fan of Lydia for a couple years now and its music still gives my shivers. It is a very emotional band through words and voice. The album "This December, It’s One More and I’m Done" is an amazing album. Making April is a band I recently came across. It is more about love and happiness. I’m still listening to Making April and getting to know the group. They are both excellent bands with very talented musicians. Both should be making it big very soon.

"The Black Rose" EP from Blindside is an excellent new release from the band out of Sweden. The group’s music is rock and a little different from most American bands.

Blindside has its own style of the genre and a true music talent. "The Way You Dance" is my favorite song off the EP. It just makes you want to let go and dance. It’s hard to explain. Blindside is just one of those bands that are very inspirational and emotional through its lyrics and music.

"Emotional" and "inspirational" are two words that can describe two solo artists Mat Kearney and Tim Miller.

You’ve probably heard Mat Kearney’s songs on the local radio, that’s where I first heard him. He is a great musician and brings a new voice to the alternative scene. You probably haven’t ever heard of Tim Miller, however. The first time I heard him was at Plattsburgh at a coffee house. He is a very talented musician, also. I have actually met him, and I am trying to get him to play up at Plattsburgh once again. They are both based off acoustic music and they both make beautiful music. If you like the acoustic stuff, those two men are both worthy of checking out.

Well, I think that I have given a little bit of everything, except rap, maybe. I hope you check these musicians out, and I especially hope you like them. Thanks for reading!
