Douglas R. Barry
ONEONTA – Douglas R. Barry, 63, passed away suddenly, Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at his home.
At his request, there will be no services.
The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, is serving the family.

He was born in Carbondale, Pa., on Sept. 21, 1918, the son of Anthony and Rose (Arcuri) Scavo. He married Marian Reller on Jan. 1, 1941. She predeceased him on June 27, 1978.

In 1951, Angelo founded Scavo’s Body Shop, and remained active in the business even after selling it to his daughter and son-in-law in the 1980’s.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed the times spent at his camp. He also cherished the times spent with his family.

He is survived by his children, Gary Scavo and his wife, Jackie, of New Orleans, La. and Kathy Gravelin and her husband, Rich, of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Michelle Grygiel, of Oneonta, Stacey Cerrone of New Orleans, Scott Scavo, of Lorton, Va., and Andrew Gravelin, of Oneonta; his great-grandchildren, Sierra and Skyler Scavo, and Maggie and Eddie Cerrone; two sisters, Antoinette Williams, of Oneonta, and Mary Miller and her husband Richard, of Oneonta; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Bruno Scavo, Katie Scavo, John Scavo and Nancy Osterhoudt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday when the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the patient activity fund at Robynwood Adult Home, 43 Walnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Otto F. Schallert

MILFORD — Mr. Otto F. Schallert, a lifelong dairy farmer, died Thursday evening, Jan. 12, 2006, at his home on Goey Pond Road East. He was 88.

A son of Otto F. and Florentine (Petri) Schallert, he was born on June 13, 1917, in Bowerstown. On Oct. 26, 1941, he married Anna M. Zukowski in Cooperstown. His beloved wife died June 2, 1993.

He first worked on the family dairy farm in Bowerstown and was later employed by Otsego Forest Products, a lumber company in Phoenix Mills. He then owned a farm in Hinman Hollow and then purchased the dairy farm which he owned and operated on Goey Pond Road.

A true outdoorsman, he loved being outdoors and enjoyed trapping and hunting. For many years he was a member of the Fur Takers of America and the Otsego Farm Bureau.

Otto is survived by one son, Robert O. Schallert and his wife Joan, of Milford; two grandsons, Anthony Schallert and his wife Maria, of Westville and Michael Schallert and his wife Shameela, of Westford; three great grandchildren, James Schallert and Zachary and Aydin Schallert; one brother, John Schallert and his wife Violet, of Fork Shop; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his grandson, Steven Schallert and three sisters, Pauline Smith, Florentine Ottaway and Minnie Moseman.

Otto’s family will receive friends on Monday afternoon, Jan. 16, 2006, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

A graveside service of committal and burial will take place later this spring in the Westville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Hartwick Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, NY 13348

Mary Rose Lake

HILTON — Mary Rose Lake, 81, of Hilton, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 2006, at Park Ridge Hospital in Greece.

Mary was born Aug. 17, 1924, in South Kortright, daughter of Ralph and May (Gates) Rose.

She married O. Warren Lake on June 25, 1949. He passed away in 1979. She was also predeceased by her brother, Huge Rose.

Mary graduated from the University of Rochester in the class of 1949 and worked as a registered nurse in the Rochester area. She had an eye for birdwatching and genealogy. Mary also loved Christmas and other holidays.

She is survived by her children, Susan Frank, Steven (Mary) Lake, Philip (Jennifer) Lake, Richard (Lisa) Lake; sisters, Anne (John) Knight, Ruth (Floyd) Many, Evangeline Girandno; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 14, at Hilton Baptist Church.

Private inurnment will take place in Parma Union Cemetery.

Those who wish may contribute to Hilton Baptist Church Memorial Fund in Mary’s memory.

Arrangements are by the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home Inc., Hilton.

Antonia "Tonita" Angellotti

PALM BEACH — Fla. — Antonia "Tonita" Angellotti, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, in her home in Palm Beach, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew A. Angellotti, who passed June 21, 1985.

Antonia is survived by her son, Victor and his wife and son, James, of Orlando, Fla., as well as her daughter, Andrea and her husband, Timothy and their son, Wyatt Andrew of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She is also survived by her sister, Aida Gallucci and her husband and three nephews.

After a private funeral, she will rest next to her husband, Andrew, in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Oneonta.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the late spring.

Donations may be made on her behalf to the American Cancer Society.

The family has entrusted care of their loved one to Dorsey-E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla.

Larry Socci

HARPERSFIELD — Larry Socci, 54, of Moxham Road, Harpersfield, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at the A. O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a long illness.

Larry was born Nov. 17, 1951, in Cobleskill Hospital, the son of Michael and Lillian (Jacobs) Socci. They predeceased him.

He married Elizabeth Smith on June 17, 1972, and worked for several years as a farmer for Swantak Farms in South Kortight.

Larry is survived by his wife Elizabeth and five children, a daughter, Joanne and Kevin Meade, of Harpersfield, and four sons, Lawrence Socci Jr., and Christine, of Jefferson, James Socci, of Jefferson, David Socci, of Stamford and Kevin Socci of North Carolina; two brothers, Edward Socci, of Cobleskill, Bobby Socci, of Kentucky and a sister, Linda Scott, of Kentucky. Larry also had grandchildren and many friends.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford. A funeral service will follow immediately at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Steven Moore, officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
