Charlotte Elizabeth (McElroy) Mann BURLINGTON Charlotte Elizabeth (McElroy) Mann, 96, of Burlington (formerly of Old Tappan and Paramus), died Saturday, Jan. She was born in a thatched cottage, "Kiltycreighton," Boyle, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, the daughter of George and Anne McElroy. At age 91, she visited and slept in the room in which she was born.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Kathleen, Georgina (killed in the London bombing in World War II), and Ellen (Nellie); and five brothers, William, Arthur, George (Bertie), Sam and Jack.
She is survived by a brother, Tom (wife, Ivy) of Nottingham, England. Also two sisters-in-law, Mel and Mavis (in Ireland); and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She came to the U.S.A. in 1925. She was very proud of her Irish heritage but was most proud of "becoming a U.S. citizen by choice instead of by accident."
She was an Episcopalian (Church of England).
She graduated from The Boyle School in Ireland and the Egan School of Business in Hackensack, N.J.
She held various positions in her lifetime: a shopkeeper, waitress, secretary to a lawyer and to the pathologist of Hackensack Hospital, then a wife, homemaker and wonderful mother. After moving to New York, she became employed by the state of New York as the activities director at The Meadows nursing home in Cooperstown.
She was loved by the patients and her co-workers. She and her husband also owned and operated a campground "El-Jen-Kay Ranch" (named after their first three grandchildren. The camp store was later named "Kenny’s Shack") on their beloved 65-acre farm in Burlington, until retiring in 1980.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, John Leo Mann, in June 1997.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Kenneth Bergmann, Point Pleasant, N.J.; three granddaughters and their spouses, Elizabeth and Thomas Mahon, Point Pleasant; Jennifer and Frank Ruzicka, Easton, Pa., and Kathleen and William Luell, Friendswood, Texas; one grandson, Kenneth Bergmann Jr. and Judy Eskelson, Brick, N.J.; and three great-grandchildren, Sara, Melissa and William IV, Texas.
She was very energetic and loved children, storytelling (composed them as she spoke), animals, gardening, knitting, cooking, entertaining, climbing "her mountains," traveling and playing golf into her 90s with her "girlfriends."
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston. Her funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Fr. Charles Taylor, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at the Butternut Valley Brick School House Cemetery, Burlington.

Robert A. Bartlett Sr.
SPRINGFIELD Robert A. Bartlett Sr., 78, of Bartlett Road in the town of Springfield, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 15, 2006, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Cooperstown, a son of Charles H. and Vesta (Gage) Bartlett.
He married Catherine Powers on Jan. 20, 1957, in Cooperstown.
Raised on the family dairy farm in Springfield Center, Bob was a graduate of East Springfield High School. After graduating from Morrisville Tech, he joined his father in the operation of the family dairy farm. He and his brother, Leslie R. Bartlett, later established the Ringwood Farms Campground, now operated by Bob’s son, Richard.
A member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Springfield Center, Bob was always an advocate of children’s education and served on the Board of Education at the Springfield Central School for 31 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of BOCES in Milford for many years.
Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine, of the town of Springfield; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert A. Bartlett Jr., DVM, and Lora, of Mountville, Pa., James E. Bartlett and Tammy, Stephen A. Bartlett and Richard C. Bartlett, all of the town of Springfield; three grandchildren, Sarah Jane Bartlett, Robert T. Bartlett and Luke E. Bartlett; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Charles E. (Renita) Bartlett Sr. of Kentucky, and Mrs. Harold C. (Emily) Bartlett of California; one brother-in-law, John Magruder of Syracuse; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by one sister, Elinor Magruder; and three brothers, Harold C. Bartlett, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Leslie R. Bartlett and Charles E. Bartlett Sr.
A funeral service will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Springfield Center, with the Rev. Persis Williams, rector, officiating.
Burial will be later this spring in the Springfield Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when Bob’s family will be in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to Milford BOCES or Future Farmers of America.

Roselin M. Gifford ONEONTA Roselin M. Gifford, 99, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
She was born Oct. 24, 1906, in New Lisbon, the daughter of Clinton and Camilla (Hunt) Eaton.
Roselin lived in California for 14 years and moved back to the area in 1920.
She graduated from SUNY Cobleskill from the Home Economics Division in 1929.
On Oct. 19, 1929, Roselin married Raymond H. Gifford in Morris. Mr. Gifford predeceased her March 7, 1999.
Roselin was the housemother for SUCO Sorority AGO-AM on Maple Street for 15 years.
Roselin and Raymond spent their winters in Florida, where she participated in shuffleboard and other activities at the park where they stayed.
She was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Oneonta, the Order of Eastern Star Martha Chapter No. 116, a former member of the WSCS and Gleaner’s Club, the State and National Grange as well as the Susquehanna Valley Grange and the AGO-AM Sorority of Oneonta.
Roselin is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Conrad and Marie Gifford of Homosassa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Colleen Lamie, of Batavia, Conrad Gifford Jr., of Pavilion, Theresa Marshall, of Texas, Veronica Gifford, of Puerto Rico, Michael Gifford, of Puerto Rico, and Joseph Gifford, of Cooperstown; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Gordon Gifford, in 1997.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be held in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820, in loving memory of Roselin M. Gifford.

Shirley Ann Cole-Butts HOBART Shirley Ann Cole-Butts, 59, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Mansfield, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Pearl River, the daughter of Douglas and Winifred Cole.
Shirley spent her childhood growing up in Hobart. Later, she moved to Tucson, Ariz., and most recently to Mansfield, Ohio.
Shirley is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Tasha Butts, of Sidney; a sister, Margret Rought, of Owego; brothers, Raymond, of Waverly; Leslie, of Middleburgh, Gary and Debbie Cole, of Stamford, Glen Cole and Donna Houghton, of Hobart, Carl and Ann, of Stamford; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Chyna.
She was predeceased by her father and mother and a sister, Betty.
Burial will take place in the spring in Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart, at the convenience of the family.
Local arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home of Hobart.
Jennie Macchia SCHENEVUS Jennie Macchia, 95, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.
Services will be announced in the spring.
The Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St. in Schenevus, is serving the family.
