| side, after a year long battle with lung cancer.
"Mikey," as he was fondly known by his many friends and co-workers, was born in Kingston on April 22, 1962.
Mike’s father spent 20 years in the United States Navy, which required the family to move several times. As a result, Mike formed many long-lasting friendships.
After finishing school, Mike worked in construction for 12 years at RD Bean in Greenbelt, Md. He then moved his family to Jefferson, where he built a home for his wife Donna and their children, near his parents.
Over the years, he received many bowling and softball trophies, but his favorite pastime was fishing. It earned him the nickname "Fish." Fishing, however, was second to the love of his life and high school sweetheart of more than 30 years, his wife Donna. Mike was a member of Sons of the American Legion, Utsayantha Unit 1379, Stamford and Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.
He was a friend to everyone he met and no one was ever a stranger. Mike was always willing to help anyone who asked or he saw needed it. His passing is a great loss to everyone who knew him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Donna (Ashby) Grubaugh of Jefferson; his son, Michael Grubaugh Jr. and his friend Marilyn Wyckoff of Gilboa; his daughter, Shannon Grubaugh and her friend Chris Palmatier Jr. of Stamford; and the joy of his life, his granddaughter, Ashli Palmatier, of Stamford; his mother Barbara (Mitchell) Bunn of Jefferson; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Mary Grubaugh of Connecticut; Paul and Maria Bunn, of Ozone Park and Clayton and Laura Bunn of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews and cousins, as well as close family friends, Glen Merwin, of Jefferson and Theresa Anderson, of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by his father, J.B. Bunn in 2005, and his grandparents Harry and Fran Mitchell of Rifton.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Hall Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 27 Harper St., Stamford.
Donations may be made in Michael’s memory to Catskill Area Hospice of Cobleskill.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.
