Hazel R. Read ONEONTA Hazel R. Read, 84, of Oneonta died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Closter, N.J., the daughter of Walter and Violet (Williamson) Roberts.She married Albert J. Read on Sept. 12, 1953.Hazel was a graduate of SUNY Albany (then the New York State College for Teachers) with majors in English and chemistry, and after graduation she worked as a chemist in the state Health Department laboratories in Albany.She also studied organ and assisted the music director at the First Presbyterian Church in Albany.In addition to becoming a homemaker, Hazel was very active in her church, in inter-church organizations, and in community outreach. She was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, Oneonta, as well as having served for a while as organist. For many years she was the president of the Women’s Association and was also the organizer of its twice-yearly rummage sale, a major fundraiser for the association’s charitable activities.She was very active in the Oneonta Interfaith Committee, serving as its president for some years and later serving as its secretary. She chaired or co-chaired the annual CROP Walk for 20-years, was chair of the on-going Lenten Luncheon series, was an organizer of the food bank, and for many years organized the scheduling for the Nursing Home Worship Program. She was past president of Church Women United, and was the organizer and chief executive of its Meals-on-Wheels program in Oneonta for its entire 24-year existence until it was taken over by the Otsego County program.She served on the steering committee of the Saturday’s Bread community program. She served as president of the Otsego County Council of Churches for many years. She also served as a member of the board of the Upstate Home for Children (now called Springbrook), and served several years as its treasurer.Hazel is survived by her husband, Albert; her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lon Hendricks, of St. Paul, Minn.; her uncle, Allen W. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515.The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta is serving the family.Egbert (Eggy) LeachONEONTA Egbert (Eggy) Leach, 93, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, in New Berlin, Wis.Born in Chinchilla, Pa., Eggy was the son of the late Myron and Florence (Franklin) Leach, and was predeceased by his siblings, Helen, Ernest and Richard.Married to the late Helen Quackenbush for 66 years, Eggy lived most of his life in Oneonta.Predeceased by his daughter, Judith, he leaves behind his three devoted sons, Myron (Vivian), Richard (Karen), and Gerald (Noreen); four grandchildren, Judith (Ken) and great-grandson, Ryan; James (Samantha) and great-grandchildren, Jesse, Kendall and Seth; Richard Jr. (Melissa), Nicole and great-grandsons, Michael and Christopher; and many nieces and nephews.A 1932 graduate of Oneonta High School, Eggy served in the United States Navy from 1932-1936. Upon his return from the Navy, he was employed by New York Telephone for 36 years, retiring in 1973.Eggy was an active member of the Oneonta community, freely giving of his time and talents. In 1955, Eggy helped create the Oneonta Little League and, in 1991, was honored for his participation, which spanned from its founding in 1955 through 1959.He was also a lifelong member of the Elks Club in which he served as the Exalted Ruler in 1963.His outstanding athletic ability earned him positions on his high school football, basketball and baseball teams and served him well when he played semi-pro baseball.Eggy literally soared above the rest when he earned his pilot’s license, but his greatest joy was spending time with his sons and their families. Their devotion to him and his to them was palpable.Eggy’s smile lit the room, and his laughter was contagious. He was a kind human being who eagerly jumped in to help anyone in need. He was so smart and capable that everyone seemed to turn to him to be the fixer of their problems, and he expected nothing in return.Respected and loved by all who knew him, his one-of-a-kind character and personality will not be replaced.Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, with the Elks Club service at 7 p.m., at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating.Interment in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery will be at a later date.The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St. in Oneonta, is serving the family.Michael Scott GrubaughJEFFERSON Michael Scott Grubaugh, 43, of Jefferson, passed on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, at home with his family by his side after a year-long battle with lung cancer."Mikey," as he was fondly known by his many friends and co-workers, was born in Kingston on April 22, 1962.Mike’s father spent 20 years in the United States Navy, which required the family to move several times. As a result, Mike formed many long-lasting friendships.After finishing school, Mike worked in construction for 12 years at RD Bean in Greenbelt, Md. At that time, he moved his family to Jefferson, where he built a home for his wife Donna and their children, near his parents. Over the years, he received many bowling and softball trophies, but his favorite pastime was fishing. It earned him the nickname, "Fish." Fishing, however, was second to the love of his life and high school sweetheart of more than 30 years, his wife, Donna.Mike was a member of Sons of the American Legion, Utsayantha Unit 1379, Stamford, and Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.He was a friend to everyone he met, and no one was ever a stranger. Mike was always willing to help anyone who asked or he saw needed it. Tari.Elizabeth R. HuntingtonMASONVILLE Elizabeth (Betty) Huntington of Masonville passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at her home while under the care of Catskill Area Hospice. Through the program, Betty was able to stay in her home among family and friends.She was born May 27, 1931, daughter of the late Ruth (Hall) and Harold Higgins in New Berlin. They resided in Burlington Flats, and Betty graduated from Edmeston Central School.On June 11, 1949, Betty married Howard Huntington in her home in Burlington Flats. They moved to Masonville, and she worked for C. Sherman Insurance Agency.Later, Betty was elected Masonville town clerk, a position she held for 17 years.Betty was a member and past matron of the Masonville O.E.S. and secretary and active member of the Masonville Federated Church.Betty and Howard were members of the Afton Golf Club. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.Lois Elaine KilpatrickONEONTA Lois Elaine Kilpatrick, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at the Albany Medical Center.Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Margaretville, she was the daughter of the late Harold O’Conner and Gwendolyn Swezey.In 1943, she married Richard Kilpatrick in Clemson, S.C. They raised six children, while traveling extensively during his military career. Lois took advantage of every opportunity to show her children the world, for which they are all very grateful. Richard died in October 1973.Lois enjoyed a career in real estate and was a salesperson for the Benson Real Estate Agency.She was a longtime member and an elder at the Laurens Presbyterian Church. She was a director of the Goodyear Lake Association and a founding member of the Laurens Emergency Squad.She loved traveling, gardening and spending time outdoors. Most dear to her heart were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by her loving and faithful companion of 16 years, John Stevens; her children, Wayne of Darby, Mont., Diane of North Kingstown, R.I., Heather of Columbia, S.C., Gavin of Clay, and Bethia of Hamilton, Mont.; her grandchildren, Laurie Morgan, Heather Vanderslout, Meghan Sheehy-Grizzle, Dawn Kilpatrick, Judith Morgan Hanrahan, Matthew Sheehy, Taylor Hanrahan, Landen Kilpatrick Rice, Eden Hanrahan and Alexis and Merrick Kilpatrick; her great-grandchildren, Skylar, Azlyn, Bailey, and newborns, Logan, and twins, Karter and Marley; her sisters, Colleen Viele of Hudson Falls, Ellen Pizzi of Glens Falls and Joan Roberts of Glens Falls. She was born April 21, 1918, daughter of the late Andrew and Hendrieka (Drenth) Stoop Sr. in Harrison, S.D.
Anna married William Cicio on Dec. 2, 1938, in North Carolina. He predeceased her Oct. 30, 1984. She is also predeceased by two brothers, Andrew and Henry Stoop.
Anna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Gordon Davis, Bainbridge; grandson, Roger Davis, Canada; two granddaughters, Brenda and Peter Bauerle, Bainbridge, and Diane Williams, Bainbridge; four great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much, Amanda and Jonny Williams, Emily and Adam Bauerle, all of Bainbridge; sister, Alice Stout of Washington, N.C.; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anna’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the United Methodist Home Nursing Facility in Norwich for the love and care the aides and staff gave her especially in her final week.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Paul Cicio, officiating.
Burial will be in East Branch Cemetery.

Lillian P. Kelley DELHI Lillian P. Kelley, 96, of Delhi, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi.
She was born July 10, 1909, the daughter of Robert and Mary Parsons in Hartford, Conn.
She married John F. Kelley on Sept. 17, 1928, in Oneonta. He predeceased her Aug. 30, 1973.
She was employed in human services throughout her life. She lived for socialization with her many friends and family, the opportunity to dance, and spend time with her pets.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Delhi.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful, caring staff of the Countryside Care Center.
She is survived by nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Her husband, parents and eight siblings predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at St. Peter’s Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Michael Flannery as celebrant.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi, NY 13753.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
Mark Carl Eichler ONEONTA Mark Carl Eichler, 42, of Oneonta, died Jan. 20, 2006, at his home.
Born March 3, 1963, in Oneonta, he was the son of Vernard C. and Patricia A. (Harrington) Eichler.
Mark was in the Oneonta Pool League. He liked to golf and fish, but loved his music.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen Larsen; his parents, Vernard C. and Patricia A. Eichler, of Oneonta; his daughter, Amanda Lynn Eichler; his sisters, Elaine Jenks and her husband, Kirk, of Baton Rouge, La., Laura Laub of Baton Rouge, La., and Michele Kelly of Binghamton; his grandmother, Freda Harrington of Walton; and numerous special friends, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
A funeral service will be held immediately following the viewing at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in the spring in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Gerald F. Lester Sr. OTEGO Gerald F. Lester Sr., 72, of Otego, entered into eternal life on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at his home.
Born Dec. 22, 1933, in Oneonta, he was the son of the late George Lester and Mildred (Ostrander) Yager.
Mr. Lester served his country valiantly with the United States Army 8th Infantry during the Korean War. He was an avid hunter.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Joy Ann Lester; his children, Ranee Jay of Ellington, Conn., Lori Kehoe of East Windsor, Conn., and Gerald F. Lester Jr. of Otego; his grandchildren, Robert and David Jay, Michael Kehoe, and Timothy and Leah Lester; his sisters, Gloria Loucks and Carol Johnson and her friend, Clarence Hoffman; his brothers, Kenneth Lester and his wife, Pricilla, and Herbert Lester and his wife, Carol; and several nieces and nephews.
Gerald was predeceased by his brother, Richard Lester.
The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St., Otego, from 4 to 7 p.m. today.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Interment will be held in the spring in Glenwood Cemetery.
