She was born Aug. 19, 1911, in the town of Springfield, the daughter of John E. and Anna (Casey) Aney.

On Feb. 25, 1929, she married Harrie C. Armstrong. He predeceased her May 14, 2003.

Doris had a great fondness for flowers and spent many hours tending her flower garden. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, especially cardinals.

Nana took great pride in her daughter, granddaughters and their families.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine and her husband, Bill Shipway, of Cherry Valley; granddaughters, Pamela and her husband, Edward Clarke, of Springfield, and JoAnne and her husband, Edward Dubben, of Roseboom; great-grandchildren, Hyde and Mariah Clarke, Elizabeth, Scott and Sam Dubben. Also, nieces, nephews, neighbors and close friends.

Besides her husband, Doris was predeceased by her parents, five sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held in her home at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating.

There will be no public calling hours.

Contributions in Doris’ memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, with a Lodge of Sorrows Service conducted by the Elks Club at 7 p.m. at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, officiating.

Interment in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery will be at a later date.
