Joseph G. MaliszewskiHARTWICK Mr. Joseph G. Maliszewski, 84, of Hartwick, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2006, at his home.A native of Long Island, Joe was born Sept. 23, 1921, in his grandmother’s home in New Hyde Park. He was the son of Adam and Helen (Jasinski) Maliszewski.Raised in Huntington, Long Island, Joe attended St. Patrick’s grade school and later graduated from St. Dominic’s Catholic High School in Oyster Bay.After being employed in several jobs on Long Island, he eventually went to work for Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage. For 38 years, Joe was employed as an aircraft tool inspector until retiring from Grumman in 1983.On Nov. 8, 1952, he married Eleanor McGunnigle at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church in Hicksville, and the couple came to live and raise their family in Northport. Eleven years ago, Joe and Eleanor moved from Long Island to Hartwick, where they built a home and enjoyed life in the country.An avid outdoorsman, Joe enjoyed fishing and gardening, and especially took great pleasure in feeding and watching the birds near his home.Of the Catholic faith, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown.Joe’s mainstay in life was his family, and they include his wife of 53 years, Eleanor, of Hartwick; five daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Bob Allison of Hartwick, Mary Ellen and Chris Hughes of Northport, Victoria and Tim West of Hartwick, Patricia and Jeff Altadonna of Centerport, and Christine and Bill Feehan of Aurora, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Christopher J. Hughes and his wife, Deitra, of Northport, Ryan Frable and her husband, Rick, of New Hartford, Timothy West Jr. of Hartwick, Patrick West and his wife, Lynn, of Otego, Thomas West of Hartwick, Joseph Allison and his wife, Katie, of Oneonta, Erin Allison of Hartwick, and Katie Allison of Hartwick; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Hughes and Hartland and Lily Frable; two sisters, Irene Coon and her husband, Charles, of New Port Richey, Fla., and Lillian Wolfenden of Ogden, Utah; one brother, Adam Maliszewski Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Lake Grove, Long Island; and several nieces and nephews.A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at St. Mary’s "Our Lady of the Lake" Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. Henderson-FriswellEDMESTON/NEW BERLIN Our mother, Ethel M. Henderson-Friswell, 92, passed away Jan. 27, 2006, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home. Mom passed peacefully with her family at her side.Mom was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Addison, Ontario, Canada. She was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Beatrice (Hutchings) James.She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Ryan, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Martinez, of Potsdam.Mom married our dad, Wesley O. Paddock, on Oct. 25, 1945. She was a loving and devoted wife until his death Aug. 16, 1965.She was dearly loved and will be missed by her three surviving children, Carol M. Davis of South New Berlin, a son, Philip Paddock, and wife Linda, of Oneonta, and a daughter, Lela E. Talbot of New Berlin. Mom was a devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mom was affectionately known and loved as "Nanny" to 46 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, who had blessed the life of Wesley before she became his wife. Mom will be missed by many nieces and nephews she leaves behind.Mom enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and flowers.She always made sure every new baby, related or not, received a knitted pair of booties that she made.In addition to devoting her life to her family, her greatest devotion was to her God Jehovah. She served faithfully as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 66 years. Mom and Dad spent several years in the full-time ministry helping to establish congregations in Herkimer and Edmeston (now Schuyler Lake).Mom married our stepfather, Clarence Henderson, of Edmeston in 1966. He passed away in September 1988.Mom was associated with the Schuyler Lake Kingdom Hall for 25 years. She also was part of the Norwich congregation and at present the Oneonta-North congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.Mom was well-loved and deeply cared-for by the staff of the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since June of 2004. Mom continued to share her faith with all of them even in the last few days of her life. Mom will be missed by all the spiritual brother and sister and all the friends she made. She touched the hearts of all she met.A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at the Oneonta Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Route 23 in West Oneonta, with Brother Zenith Valmas conducting the service.Expression of sympathy may be made to further the work to which Mom dedicated her life, with donations to the North Congregations of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Catskill Area Hospice of Oneonta, NY 13820, to make it possible for other to benefit from the loving care they provided not only to our mom, but our whole family.We will miss you Mom, Carol, Phil and Lela.Mary Beach PelieuCHERRY VALLEY Mary Beach Pelieu, 86, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.She was born in 1919 in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Goodwin and Ethel (Curry) Beach.She grew up in France among American expatriates, such as her relative Sylvia Beach, and had her first art exhibition in 1943 in Pau.During World War II, she was interned in a Nazi prison camp.Upon marriage to a U.S. war hero, Alain Joseph Beach, she returned to America, where she had two children. In 1957, the family returned to France, where Mary was exhibited at the historic Salon des Independents in Paris; won the Prix du Dome at the Salon de Femmes Peintres; and was exhibited at the Salon des Surindependents.After the early death of her first husband, Mary met poet and artist Claude Pelieu in 1962. Sharing a passion for art and literature, Mary and Claude began a correspondence with Allen Ginsberg. This association brought them to San Francisco, where Mary quickly started her own imprint at City Lights (Beach Books, Texts and Documents), then promptly discovered and published the young poet Bob Kaufman.Mary and Claude moved frequently living at various times in New York City (at the Chelsea Hotel and on the Lower East Side), London and Paris. Amidst it all, Mary continued to paint; translated the work of her good friends, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg and Ed Sanders into French; and pursued friendships and collaborations with Brion Gysin, Harry Smith, Julian Beck, and many others.She also wrote and had published her own experimental novel, "Two-Fisted Banana: Electric and Gothic."Her second husband of 40-years, Claude Pelieu, 15-years Mary’s junior, passed away in 2002.Mary, living in the small upstate town of Cherry Valley, continued to work on her collages, portraits and mixed media canvasses until her passing.Survivors include a son, Jeffery Beach; a daughter, Pamela Beach Plymell and her husband, Charles; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Plymell and William Plymell; two sisters, Patricia Thompson and Penelope Chittenden; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad, Cherry Valley, NY 13320 or the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.David M. Willyoung, 81, of Burlington Flats and formerly Scotia, passed away peacefully Jan. 28, 2006, at The Otsego Manor, Cooperstown, after a lengthy illness.Born May 7, 1924, in Ridgewood, N.J., the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Smith) Willyoung, he was orphaned as a child and raised by family friends, Edgar and Eleanor Ashworth.In 1945, he graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi fraternity. He received his master’s degree from Union College in Schenectady.He worked for General Electric in Schenectady for 50 years and was awarded 44 patents and numerous professional and international awards, primarily for his work in the Large Steam Turbine Generator Division. Mary L. Sutton
NEW BERLIN Mary L. Sutton, 69, of New Berlin passed away Jan. 26, 2006, at her home in New Berlin, surrounded by her family.
Mary was born June 21, 1936, in New Berlin, the daughter of Floyd C. and Katherine (Moore) Wood.
She married Edwin "Roy" Sutton on Oct. 2, 1958, in Montrose, Pa. He predeceased her April 20, 1998.
Mary spent her childhood in Pittsfield. She graduated from New Berlin Central School in the class of 1954, and from Broome Community College in 1956.
Mary worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Chenango Memorial Hospital and spent 38 years with Procter & Gamble of Norwich, before retiring in 1997.
She was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Procter & Gamble; a 50-plus-year member of the New Berlin Women’s Bowling Association and the Susquenango Women’s Bowling Association; the New York State 600 Club; and the National 600 Bowling Club. She was inducted into the Susquenango Bowling Hall of Fame in 2003. She was also a member of the New Berlin American Legion Auxiliary, the Riverbend Golf Club and was an honorary member of the New Berlin Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Katherine and James Schmitt, Edmeston, Sharon and Martin Miles, Mount Upton, and Debbie and Kris Tilbe, Edmeston; her grandchildren, Amy and Brad Smith, Edmeston, Traci Schmitt, North Adams, Mass., Shelly Miles, Mount Upton, Courtney and Adam Tilbe, Edmeston; her brother, Richard and Cindy Wood, Hartford, Ky.; her brother-in-law, Carl and Sue Sutton, New Berlin; her sister-in-law, Edith Sutton, Rome; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Shep.
She was predeceased by her sister, LeeAnn Wilcox.
Calling hours were 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 30, 2006, at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Ernest Clemmens officiating.
Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to the Chenango Area Hospice.

Gerald F. Wenck OTEGO Gerald F. Wenck, 88, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at A.O Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Oneonta, the son of William and Mary Jane (Shepard) Wenck.
Gerald was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1937 to 1939.
He married Madeline Burdick on June 18, 1941 in Oneonta.
Gerald was employed at the D&H Railroad in Oneonta for 35½ years. He was a brakeman and yard conductor, retiring in December of 1977.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the CB Club, and was an Explorer Scout leader.
Gerald enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling. He spent 13 wonderful winters in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Madeline Wenck, of Otego; his children, Gerald W. and Romona Wenck of Laurens, Kenneth P. and Dorothy Wenck of Fayetteville and Christine Wenck of Oneonta; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Houck of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, James F. Wenck; and 10 brothers and sisters.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff on 1 North at the A.O Fox Memorial Hospital for the special care they provided to Gerald.
Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. to the funeral service time at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a later date.

Jean A. Guay RICHMONDVILLE Mrs. Jean A. Guay, 78, of Holmes Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Mrs. Guay was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Albany, the daughter of Elmer and Eliza (Gossweiler) Collins.
Mrs. Guay was a graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School and retired in 1987 from SUNY Cobleskill, where she was a senior accountant clerk.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Richmondville.
Survivors include her husband, Frederick Guay, whom she married July 21, 1973; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Martha Eakin of Lake Pleasant and Larry and Dawn Eakin of Warnerville; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Howard George of Hampton, N.H.; two brothers, Ronald Collins of Worcester and Gerald Collins of Honesdale, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Main Street, Richmondville, with the Rev. Gary Edmister officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
Spring interment will be in Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo.

Walter D. Bushnell Jr. ONEONTA Walter D. Bushnell Jr., 76, of Oneonta, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.
He was born March 17, 1929, in Huntington, Long Island, the son of Walter D. Bushnell Sr. and Gertrude (Misner) Bushnell.
Walter lived most of his life and attended school in Oneonta.
He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II in Japan.
On Sept. 2, 1950, Walter married Rhoda Clement in Portlandville.
He worked for Thering Sales and Service in Oneonta for many years. Walter enjoyed being in the outdoors.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rhoda Bushnell, of Oneonta; his four children, Steven Bushnell of Laurens, Gary Bushnell of Otego, Mark Bushnell of Portlandville and Berna Bushnell Ingalls of Guilford; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Janet Kobelia, Marilyn Hurbert and Margaret Matteson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one sister, Ethel Barbano.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial dinner at the Wells Bridge Baptist Church at noon Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006.

Arnold James Turtur MASONVILLE Arnold James Turtur, 73, of Masonville passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at the Bridgewater Nursing Facility in Binghamton. He was born Oct. 20, 1932, son of the late Arthur and Nellie (Cummings) Turtur in Masonville. Arnold is survived by his son, Del Turtur, Bayonne, N.J.; three daughters, Kim Simonds, Sidney, Vicki and Chuck Stith, Bainbridge and Nancy and Wayne Galyen, Binghamton; sister, Shirley and Milton Curtis, Masonville; brother, Harold Turtur, Bainbridge; six grandchildren, Christi, Darci, Chad, Brandy, Shannon and Brianne; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Howard of the Masonville Federated Church officiating.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge in the spring.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS William Dufloe, 56, of Walnut Street, beloved husband of Linda Woodard Dufloe, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2006, in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
