John Harold Hull ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. He was born in Durham on Aug. 7, 1912, and he had six sisters and seven brothers.
He became a Ranger for the United States Forest Service after training at the Ranger School in Wanakeena.
In 1939, he married Dorothy Hamm of Durham. He and his young bride moved at the call of the U.S. Forest Service to several New England states for the next few years before settling near Cooperstown.
He worked at the sawmill in Phoenix Mills, cruising timber lots for the next few years. In 1952, he obtained training as a dairy technician for ABC Breeders, and he started his new position for them in Cherry Valley at that time.
His wife, Dorothy, passed on in 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Joan Joynt of Lombardy, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Janice Noah of Kenova, W.Va.; and son, Stephen of Stamford. He is also survived by his sister, Wilma Hicks of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and his brother, Ralph Hull of Durham. He has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Harold loved the outdoors and had a particular love for trees. He loved to camp, hike, and garden. What he loved most was his time "visiting" with friends and family, around the campfire, on the porch, or in his rocker.
He was a man of quiet faith, who asked little and gave much.
He will be remembered well and missed much by his family and friends.
Katherine Maggio Beyers STAMFORD Katherine Maggio Beyers, 57, of Lake Street, Stamford, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at her home.
Katherine was born Aug. 23, 1948, in Nyack, the daughter of Walter and Georgia (Jones) Maggio.
She married Arthur L. Beyers on Nov. 13, 1966, in Haverstraw.
Katherine was an executive secretary at the dean’s office at West Point Military Academy.
She was a Girl Scout leader at Rock Tavern, and in Boynton Beach, Fla., she was awarded Volunteer of the Year.
She grew up in Rockland County and had lived in Boynton Beach, Fla., before moving to Stamford five years ago.
She was a loving, special woman and will be missed greatly.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Arthur L. Beyers, Stamford; son, Ronald L. Beyers; daughters, Kathy Rose Beyers and Jessica N. Beyers; mother, Georgia Maggio, Florida; brothers, Walter and Anthony; sisters, JoAnn and Sandy; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at the Miller Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard A. Dykstra officiating.
Committal services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Ellen M. Graig BLYTHE, Ga. Ellen M. Graig, 78, of Blythe, Ga., passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at the Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
She was born May 18, 1927, in Worcester, the daughter of Dorr and Edith (Eckert) Waid.
Ellen married Andrew B. Graig on Aug. 28, 1949, in Worcester.
She was employed at The Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown as a housekeeper.
Ellen’s favorite things to do were having family holidays together, cooking and baking and having her flowers in her yard and home.
She was very proud of her grandson, Keith Mravlja, who is serving in the United States Army in Iraq.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Andrew B. Graig, of Blythe, Ga.; two daughters, Patty Mravlja and Joan Manchester, both of Blythe, Ga.; two sons, Edward R. Graig of Cherry Valley, and William J. Graig of Blythe, Ga.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Waid of Sharon Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Worcester, officiating.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in the Charlotteville Cemetery later in the spring.
The E.J. Skinner Co., in Worcester, is serving the family.
Joseph F. Longo Jr. WORCESTER Joseph F. Longo Jr., 82, passed away in Oregon.
Arrangements are pending with the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
Winifred L. Weller MILFORD Winifred L. Weller, 88, a lifelong resident of County Route 166, Milford, and beloved wife of Raymond Weller, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at the Otsego Manor.
Arrangements are pending with Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
Barrett T. Welch WEST EDMESTON Barrett T. Welch, of West Edmeston, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at the Masonic Home in Utica.
