She was born on Aug. 15, 1925, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Jessie (Griggs) Soltow.

She married Morton Miller on Oct. 3, 1954. He predeceased her on June 2, 1996.

A homemaker, Shirley’s favorite pasttime was sharing her stories of her childhood in Iowa with her family.

She graduated from elementary school in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She moved with her family to the West Coast (California) where she graduated from high school. She continued her studies and received a degree from UCLA in 1944. In 1947, she graduated from Los Angeles County General Hospital as a registered nurse.

For many years she lived on Long Island, and in the late 60s she moved to Franklin.

She is survived by her children, Mark R. Miller and his wife, Valerie, of Delhi and Paul A. Miller of Endicott; her grandchildren, Paul T. Miller and his wife, Jill, and their children, Thomas, and Michaela, Mark A. Miller and his wife, Tammy, and their children, Aden, Elizebeth, Montanna, and Alyvia, and Anthony J. Miller and his wife, Melissa, and their children, Taylor and Lana.

She was predeceased by five brothers.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta with the Rev. Eliott Oakes, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon on Tuesday until service time. The family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club, 70 River St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.

John C. Kenyon Sr.

MARYLAND — John C. Kenyon Sr., 64, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at home.

He was born March 28, 1941, in Albany, the son of Louise Kenyon.

John was a lifelong resident of the town of Maryland.

He was a self-employed logger and was injured in a logging accident in September of 1973 that left him paralyzed for the past 32 years.

Most important in John’s life was his family. His four grandchildren put the twinkle in his eye.

John is survived by his two sons, John Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Michigan and Thomas and his wife, LeeAndra, of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Sara and Jenifer of Michigan and Lauren and Aroura of Georgetown.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

At the request of the family there will be no funeral service.

The Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta, is serving the family.

Aaron G. Herdeker

ONEONTA — Aaron G. Herdeker, 24, of Oneonta died unexpectedly as a result of an automobile accident, Friday, Feb. 17, 2006.

He was born Oct. 23, 1981, in Oneonta, the son of Albert and Lori (Whitten) Herdeker.

On Dec. 20, 2003, Aaron married Amanda Youngs in Oneonta.

Aaron worked at Springbrook as a resident counselor. He enjoyed music and played the drums. Most of all, Aaron enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his son, Elija.

Aaron is survived by his wife, Amanda Herdeker of Oneonta; his son, Elija Herdeker of Oneonta; his mother and stepfather, Lori and Ken Barrett of Littleton, Colo.; his father, Albert Herdeker of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Ashley Herdeker of Colorado and Lauren Jobe of California; one brother, Eric Herdeker of Colorado; paternal grandfather, Ray and Lillian Herdeker of Afton; maternal grandmother, Delores Whitten; his father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Terri Youngs of Oneonta; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and one niece.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Aaron G. Herdeker will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Miriam Hathaway officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

George Raymond Hyde

MORRIS — George Raymond Hyde, 65, of Morris, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

Calling hours will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, with funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Robert E. Witt Jr., officiating.
