Chance A. Caffery MERIDALE Chance A. He was born Dec. 21, 1982, in Sidney, the son of Donald A. and Tina Stafford Caffery.
He was involved in the football, baseball and aquatic programs at the Chenango Forks School.
He was a member of the Blue Stone Association. Chance was an outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his fiancee, Lauren Donatelli, of Meridale; two sons, Chance A. Caffery Jr. and Gavin Steele Caffery, both at home; mother and stepfather, Tina and Gary Cuevas of Longs, S.C.; father and stepmother, Donald and Cindy Caffery of Afton; two sisters, Kricket Caffery of Portland, Ore., and Bambi Caffery of Longs, S.C.; two stepsisters, Sheri Soules of Bainbridge and Betsy Blackman of Masonville; stepbrother, Daniel ’DJ’ Blackman Jr. of Afton; paternal grandparents, Lester and Bernice Caffery of Bainbridge; maternal grandmother, Doreen Stafford of Bainbridge; great-grandmother, Lucal Jones of Sidney; stepgrandmother, Betty Cuevas of Charlotte, N.C.; and stepgrandparents, Richard and Edith Bell of Bainbridge. Chance is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with Pastor Ronald Piedmont of the First Assembly of God Church, Binghamton, officiating. Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of his services at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Coastal Federal Bank, 2619 Oak St., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577, for the care of his children.
Doris L. Fairchild NEW BERLIN Doris L. Fairchild, 86 years old and a lifelong resident of the area, died Feb. 19, 2006, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.
She was born Aug. 28, 1919, the daughter of George Phettaplace Dain and Elizabeth Lamphere Dain, in the town of Norwich.
She married Clinton Fairchild in 1939 in White Store, and they lived in South Hamilton from 1939 to 1943 before moving to Columbus, where they lived until his death in 1997.
Her parents were lifelong area residents who, for most of the time, made a living farming. Her family lived in Norwich, Holmesville, South New Berlin, Sherburne and New Berlin during her childhood. She attended school at each location, including a one-room school at Holmesville, before graduating from New Berlin Central School in 1938.
Mrs. Fairchild was a member of the Republican Women’s Club in Columbus and a longtime member of the Columbus Ladies Aid.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton Fairchild, and three brothers, Kenneth Dain, formerly of Preston, Clayton Dain, formerly of Sherburne, and David Dain, formerly of Norwich.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Marilyn Fairchild of Utica; a daughter and son-in-law, India and Paul Graves of Jonesborough, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Janice Dain of New Albany, Ind.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the Dakin Funeral Home LP of New Berlin, with the Rev. Stephen Reese, pastor of the Columbus Community Church, Columbus, officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.
Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
Lawrence Henry Marlett ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. Lawrence Henry Marlett, 88, of Zephyrhills, Fla., and formerly of Otego, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006.
He was born on the West Branch of the Otsdawa on Sept. 2, 1917, the third son of Archie and Metta (Vagts) Marlett.
Residing in Otego for the majority of his life, he was married to Flora Sheldon in 1948 and operated the family dairy farm until 1964. During that time he was also self-employed as a television repairman in the area. After discontinuing dairy farming, Lawrence and Flora purchased a television- and radio-parts distribution company and naming it L.M. Electronics, operated the business on 22 Market St. in Oneonta.
In 1980, Flora went to be with the Lord, and in November of 1981, Lawrence married Julia Sohne of Oneonta, who survives him. Lawrence retired in the early 1990s and spent most of his time in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Julia; his four children, Joan Haar of Vero Beach, Fla., Dr. Stephen Marlett of Tucson, Ariz., the Rev. Keith Marlett of Ashland, Ohio, and Anne O’Kelly of Hammond, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Judith Hurtubise and Eric Sohne.
Lawrence was a member of the First Christian Church of Otego and attended the Alliance Church of Zephyrhills.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at the First Christian Church on the West Branch of the Otsdawa in Otego, with his children officiating.

Cecil Fern Chandler Jr. LITTLE FALLS Mr. Cecil Fern Chandler Jr., 68, of Lower Paradise Road, Little Falls, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2006, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Cooperstown, a son of the late Cecil Fern Chandler Sr. and Hilda Bennett Chandler.
Raised in the town of Middlefield, Cecil attended the Middlefield District School and was of the Methodist faith.
On June 24, 1967, he married Dayle Yager in Middlefield.
Until his retirement in 1996, Cecil was employed for 29 years at the Union Fork & Hoe Company in Frankfort.
With family as his foremost priority, Cecil proved himself as a loving and caring husband and father.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dayle, of Little Falls; two daughters, Teresa Chandler of Fort Plain and Tracy Rood and her husband, Scott, of Fort Plain; one son, Tony Chandler of Little Falls; two brothers, Ernest W. Chandler of Florida and Robert Laurence Chandler of New York; one sister, Mrs. Shirley Walrath of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Cecil’s wishes, a memorial service will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., in St. Johnsville.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Family Funeral Home in St. Johnsville.
Margaret Boggs Craig ONEONTA Margaret Boggs Craig, 85, of Oneonta, died Feb. 19, 2006, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
Born Feb. 28, 1920, in Meredith, she was the daughter of the late P.K. Hilliard and Elizabeth (Rutherford) Boggs.
Mrs. Craig graduated from Franklin Central School and then attended what is now known as Delhi Tech.
She married David A. Craig Jr. on Oct. 19, 1940, at the Hamden Presbyterian Church. When she was first married she worked at the Bendix Corporation in Sidney. Then, during World War II, she worked in the war department at the Harlingen Air Force Base in Harlingen, Texas.
They moved to Oneonta in 1946, where they raised their family. In 1965, they started their own business, Bundy Redi-Mix Concrete, Inc., of which she was the vice president for many years.
Her most important role and the one she loved was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Edward S. Craig and his wife, Rosemary, of Cooperstown, and Jane C. Sullivan of Surfside Beach, S.C.; her grandchildren, Brian D. Craig and his wife, Carrie, of Jersey City, N.J., David A. and Thomas E. Craig, both of Cooperstown, Sara Sullivan Benedict and her husband, Mark, of Westland, Mich., and Samantha L. Sullivan of Surfside Beach, S.C.; one brother, Wendell A. Boggs of Herkimer; a half sister, Evelyn Boggs Dickson of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, David A. Craig Jr.; her brother, Renwick E. Boggs; her sister, Nettie Boggs Moore; and a half brother, Paul Boggs.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
Interment will be held in the spring at Glenwood Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
Steven L. Duncan SCHENEVUS Steven L. Duncan, 54, of Williams Road, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006, from injuries sustained in a house fire.
Arrangements are pending with the Heller Funeral Home, 25 Arch St., Schenevus.
