Charles A. Osborn

MILFORD — Charles A. Osborn, 53, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his home on South Main Street, Milford.

During and after college, Charlie was employed as a camp ranger at the Henderson Boy Scout Camp on Crumhorn Mountain.

It was in the chapel at the Boy Scout camp that he married his wife, Sheila Bozanic, of Colliersville, on Sept. 7, 1974. Shortly thereafter, Charlie, who was known for his meticulous, detail-oriented manner, became a retail security manager for Jamesway Corporation.

From 1977 to early 2003, Charlie and his family resided in the Ballston Spa area of Saratoga County, where he worked for many years in security and as a tactical peace officer for the New York Racing Association. Most recently, and until his untimely death, he was employed by Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs as a sergeant with the campus Security Department.

Charlie was, throughout his life, an active and involved member of his communities and was a lover of the outdoors. During his high school years, he played varsity football for Milford High School and was an Eagle Scout. In recognition of his leadership and his Scouting and outdoor skills, he was elected to Scouting’s prestigious Order of the Arrow.

As an adult, Charlie was a member of the Oneonta Masonic Lodge No. 466 and was a recently elected Associate Patron of Martha Chapter No. 116 of the Eastern Star. He served for a number of years as the registrar for the American Rabbit Breeders Association.

He was a New York state handgun instructor, a NRA hunter education instructor, a life member of the NRA, a 4-H hunter safety instructor, an adviser to the Saratoga County 4-H program, a member, past president and past treasurer of the Galway Fish and Game Club in Galway, a member of the Wanderers Car Club of Cooperstown, and a volunteer fireman with the Malta Ridge Volunteer Fire Department in Malta and the Milford Volunteer Fire Department.

Charlie was also proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Milford Post No. 1566 and was recently elected as adjutant of that organization.

In addition to his many community activities, Charlie will be remembered for his woodworking skills, his vegetable gardens, and his love of fishing and hunting. He will also be remembered as an avid hockey fan, a knowledgeable follower of the sport of curling, and as an avid reader of historical mysteries and books and articles concerning crime and justice.
