Born in New York City to Frank and Marjorie Whiting, the family moved to Cooperstown in 1932. After graduating from Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown, Elizabeth married the late Dr. Ernest Bevier Wright in the spring of 1939.
Shortly after their marriage, Betty and Ernie resided in Pasadena, Calif. In 1946, they moved to Rochester, where he joined the faculty at the University of Rochester Medical School. In 1956, they moved to Gainesville, Fla., where he was one of the founding faculty members of the University of Florida Medical School.
Upon retirement in 1969, they moved to Palm Beach, Fla., and then to Captiva Island, Fla.
Because of the couple’s great affection for the Cooperstown area, they built a summer home at 56 Lake St. Her father, the noted architect Frank P. Whiting, designed the house that was completed in 1952.
Betty was active in the community with the Lake and Valley Garden Club, the Cooperstown Art Association, on various committees of the Cooperstown Country Club, and the A.S.P.C.A. She was also a sustaining member of the Junior League of Rochester. In her later years, she became an avid world traveler.
Betty is survived by five children, Elizabeth Carolyn O’Hare of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Charlotte W. Edelstein of Gainesville, Fla., Catherine W. Ransdell of Broken Arrow, Okla., Cecily P. Rogers of Brandamore, Pa., and Ernest B. Wright Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Cooperstown, later this spring.
Arrangements are being made through Tillapaugh Funeral Service in Cooperstown.
Evelyn R. Clark ONEONTA Evelyn R. Clark of Oneonta, born March 14, 1918, passed away peacefully Friday, March 3, 2006, at 7:13 a.m., with her family at her bedside. She was a resident of Baywinde Senior Living Community and St. Ann’s for the past three years and was 87 years old.
Evelyn worked as an office manager at E.F. Hutton in Oneonta for many years. She was known for her beautiful smile and her positive attitude and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Gary R. Clark and wife Nancy of Webster, Ronald E. Clark and Gail Gangidine of Cleveland, Ohio, Larry G. Clark and wife Mary of San Diego, Calif., and Robert A. Clark and wife Evelyn of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Joyce Clark, Brian Clark, Barbara Zembiec, Jason Clark, Andrew Clark, James Rogers, Christine Sebastian, Cheryl Hoysic, Bridgett Reed, and Joan Pulver; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn also wished to remember her lifelong friends Phyllis Zona of Oneonta, Mary Jane Simpelaar of Lyons, Jim and Lynn Davis of Webster, and the Backus Road Six of Webster.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond E. Clark of Oneonta. Mr. Clark worked at Bresee’s Department Store and the Oneonta Police Department.
The family thanks Baywinde Senior Living Community, the eighth-floor staff at St. Ann’s Community and Mark Simpelaar of St. Ann’s Community in Rochester and Hospice of Rochester.
A memorial service was held at Profetta Funeral Chapel, 1650 Empire Blvd., Webster, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5. There was a short eulogy following the service. There was an open house at the home of Gary and Nancy Clark following the eulogy. A private burial service will be held later in Oneonta.
The family requests no flowers. Instead, please donate to the charity of your choice and celebrate her life remembering the wonderful times you spent with her.
Lois Lorenz Reid CAPE CORAL, Fla. Lois Lorenz Reid, 82, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of the town of Tonawanda, passed away peacefully in the Coral Trace Health Care Facility on Thursday, March 2, 2006.
Born on Sept. 24, 1923, in Buffalo, Lois was the daughter of late Wilbert E. and Jessie Patterson Lorenz.
Lois was married July 3, 1942, to John R. Reid II in Buffalo. Mr. Reid predeceased her on May 26, 1995. They were happily married for more than 52 years.
Lois spent the majority of her life being a mother, homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her husband and partner and supporting him in his many activities. She was at one time an active member of the congregation of the University Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, where her father-in-law, S. Leslie Reid, was minister for more than 30 years. She also took great pleasure in reading books.
Survivors include her son, John R. Reid III (Rick) (J.R.) and his wife, Nancy, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Lockport; a daughter, Suzanne Reid Brown and her husband, Roger, of Otego; grandchildren, Shelley Reid Salmons and husband Paul; John R. Reid IV (Jay); Kyle A. Reid and Kristen S. Brown; great-grandchildren, Heather and Justin Lute.
Two brothers predeceased Lois, "Billy," who was a special person with Down syndrome, and Robert, an airline mechanic with the United States Air Force. Lois will be sadly missed by dear friend and roommate at Coral Trace, Pauline Tedder.
A private memorial service to celebrate the life of Lois Reid will be held in Florida at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Mae C. Knorr AMSTERDAM Mae C. Knorr, 94, formerly of Northville, died Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam after a long illness.
She was born in Otego on Sept. 21, 1911, the daughter of the late Ernest and Pearl Martendale Coon. She was a graduate of the Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City.
Mae was a homemaker and married the Rev. William M. Knorr on Sept. 1, 1934. Along with her husband they served in churches in Maryland, Otsego County, South Valley, Perth, Fort Plain, Sherburne, Cranberry Creek, Bunn Hill and Unadilla. They both also served on the staffs of the Practical Bible Training School and Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was a member of the Baptist Church of Northville since 1980.
Survivors include her son, Sterling E. Knorr of Mebane, N.C.; her daughter, Sylvia Brooks of Northville; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. William Knorr; and her son, the Rev. Stuart M. Knorr.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2006, and from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the Northville Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Marshall officiating.
Burial will be held in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Ruth Elizabeth Nydam ONEONTA Ruth Elizabeth Nydam, 91, of Oneonta, entered eternal peace with her passing Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 2, 1915, in Hobart, the second of four children of Charles H. and Fanny (Cornell) More, a direct descendant of John and Betty More, who were among the earliest settlers of Delaware County.
Her formative years were spent in the Hobart area, where she graduated from Hobart High School. After graduating from Oneonta Normal School in 1935, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse in the town of Kortright.
Upon marrying Peter Nydam in 1940, she took up a teaching and caring role as mother of their 10 children.
Her husband predeceased her in 1968, after which she continued overseeing her family at the farm in North Franklin, to which they had moved in 1947. Her family was the focus of her activities. She enjoyed the company of others, and after her children were grown, she was able to assist aged friends to enable them to live at home.
Her cooking and baking abilities were well-known. She also had a special interest in gardening.
She was a member of the Aldrich Baptist Church in North Franklin.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy of Sidney, Janet and her husband, Philip, of Niskayuna, Doris and her husband, Ronald, of Plattsburgh, Marion of Syracuse, and sons, Edwin and his wife, Lisa, of Vermillion, S.D., Kenneth and his wife, Lisa, of Oneonta, Donald and his wife, Clara, of Oregon, Wis., and Charles and his wife, Linda, of Dryden; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elaine More of Springfield, Mass.; two cousins, Virginia Fox of Garrattsville and Mildred Bonesteel of Bainbridge; and six nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, David and Robert; a brother, Avery More; and two sisters, Helen More and Dorothy Byrnes.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, in the Aldrich Baptist Church, North Franklin, with Patricia Judd, Lay Minister, officiating.
Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

James J. Hall ONEONTA James J. Hall, 75, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
He was born May 24, 1930, in Boston, Mass., the son of Thomas and Bridget (Griffin) Hall.
He worked as a chemist for the Polaroid Corporation, Waltham, Mass., until retirement in 1990. Before Polaroid, he worked for First National Stores in the produce and meat departments.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a former member of the VFW.
For the past 12 years, Jim had lived on Grange Hall Road in the town of Franklin. He will be most remembered for his beautiful gardens that surrounded his property and the plants that he sold for many years.
He is survived by four brothers, Mark A. Hall of Somerville, Mass., Richard Hall of Rhode Island, Francis Hall of Hillsboro, N.H., and Kenneth Hall of Charlestown, Mass., and two sisters, Margaret LaVigueur of Homer, Alaska, and Sandra Chase of Charlestown, Mass. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Thomas Hall.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, in St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta.

Elaine V. Lande TOMS RIVER, N.J. Elaine V. Lande, 65, of Toms River, N.J., passed away March 4, 2006, at Brick Hospital, Brick, N.J.
She was born in Brooklyn. She had lived at Silver Ridge Park West section of Berkeley Township, previously living many years in Delhi.
Elaine was co-owner along with her husband of "The Family Store/Target Sports Shop" in Delhi for many years.
Elaine is survived by her husband, John Lande; her son and daughter-in-law, John Arthur and Laura; her daughter and partner, Doreen Lande and Jackie Panepinto; her grandson, Evan John; and her sister, Audrey Walsh.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Toms River, N.J. A funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the funeral home.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. in the New Jersey Veteran’s Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J.
