Barbara Waltze

DELHI — Barbara Waltze, 93, formerly of Worcester, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the Delaware County Countryside

She was born June 6, 1912, in Sayreville, N.J., the daughter of Anthony and Agatha (Zadylak) Niedzwiedz.

She married Richard Waltze on July 11, 1955.

Mrs. Waltze was at one time employed as a dressmaker in Manhattan.

She loved all animals, especially her cats and birds. Mrs. Waltze enjoyed gardening and found happiness in the small blessings each day would bring.

She was predeceased by her husband; her son, Frank Jones; her brothers, Joe, Frank and George; and her sister, Mary.

Mrs. Waltze is survived by four grandchildren, Jackie George, Kerry Jones, Kristin Jones and Jeffrey Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, she will be cremated, and there will be no public services.

The E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St. in Worcester, is serving the family.

Margaret T. Sanders

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Margaret T. Sanders, 84, formerly of Bauder Road, Hessville, died early Friday morning, March 10, 2006, at The Otsego Manor, following a long illness.

She was born in Bronx on Dec. 4, 1921, the daughter of John Friest and Delia Harold Friest.

Mrs. Sanders was educated in Bronx City School sin New York City.

She was a mother and homemaker, and was the co-owner of the family dairy farm in Fort Plains. She also was self-employed as an area housekeeper.

She was an area resident since the 1940s. She was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freysbush; a member of the Lutheran Ladies’ and Sunday School Teacher for many years; a 50-year charter member of the Women of the Moose No. 987 of Canajoharie; a former leader of area Boy & Girl Scout Troops and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for many years.

She was married to Bernard E. Sanders Sr. on Jan. 4, 1957, in Canajoharie. He predeceased her April 6, 1993. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Bertha McDonough and Mary Reynolds; and four brothers, John Al, William and Barney Friest.

Mrs. Sanders is survived by her children, Bernard E. and his wife, Debra Sanders Jr. of Fulton, Kenneth J. and his wife, Rhonda Sanders of Jordanville, Deanna L. and her husband, Howard Mureness of St. Johnsville, and Linda A. and her husband, Warren Sheckells of Cherry Valley; her brother, Walter Friest of Cherry Valley; her sisters, Helen Kneip of Fort Plain and Delia Zukas of Port Jervis; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends and relatives from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Route 163, Freysbush, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in the Fordsbush Cemetery.

Robert L. Sutton Sr.

MARYLAND — Robert L. Sutton Sr., 72, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at his daughter’s home in Schenevus.

He was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Maryland, the son of William and Minnie (Livingston) Sutton.

Bob was a United States Army veteran. He was at one time employed with Green Island Construction Company in Glenmont.

He is survived by his son, Robert L. Sutton Jr. of Maryland; his daughter, Linda L. Brady of Schenevus; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Walrath of Maryland and Marge Vaughan of Wells Bridge; several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Bob was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, William Jr. (Sonny), Edward and Donald; and a sister, Elizabeth.

Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus, with the Rev. Beverly Furey, pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow in the Maryland Cemetery.

Edward H. Wilcox

MILFORD — Edward H. Wilcox, 84, of the town of Milford and Paisley, Fla., died quietly with family present Friday, March 3, 2006, at Park Ridge Nursing Home, Rochester.

Born and raised in Webster, Mass., on Jan. 31, 1922, Ed graduated from Boston University in 1943.

After graduation from naval officer’s training school, and marriage to Marian Burnett, his wife of 62 years, he served in the Navy at a rank of Lieutenant (j.g.). Ed was the engineering officer of USS LSM 173 during the pacific conflict of World War II. Later, Ed continued his studies at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City, where he earned a master’s degree and pursued additional post-graduate studies.

Ed lived for 45 years near Portlandville, where he operated a poultry farm, a business he had learned years earlier.

While in high school, Ed raised and sold fresh-dressed chickens as Buddy’s Battery Broilers, using his childhood nickname.

Ed was active in the community. He served as a member and president of the Milford Central School Board of Education, was a Boy Scout leader, and was an active member of the Unitarian/Universalist Church in Oneonta.

He was an avid reader, outdoorsman and conservationist. Ed enjoyed camping, canoeing and hiking. After retirement, Ed and his wife, Marian, camped up and down the East Coast, eventually spending winters in the Ocala National Forest and in Paisley, Fla., while summering in Mt. Morris, south of Rochester.

Ed is survived by his wife, Marian; three sons and their wives, and five grandchildren. They include, David and his wife, Vicki of Loudonville and Lake George, Richard and his wife, Sandy of Chapel Hill, N.C., and their two children, Tyler and Kimberly, and Donald and his wife, Lisa of Rochester, and their three children, Emily, Daniel and April.

He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn in December 2005, and her husband, John H. (Jack) Buck.

A memorial service will be held in Rochester at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that individuals make donations in memory of Edward H. Wilcox to the Friends of the Library at Paisley, 24954 County Road 42, Paisley, FL 32767 or to a charity of their choice.

Audrey (Kay) Rowley

OTEGO — Kay Rowley of Otego, passed away quietly Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Kay was born in Bromley Kent, England, the daughter of late William and Mary Andrews.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, James H. Rowley; her loving daughter, Starr Beagle; four grandchildren, Darien, Darryl, Marquis and Garth Beagle; two great-grandchildren, Simon and Hailey Beagle; and her many friends on Mill Creek Road and the surrounding area.

Kay was a governess in England, before moving to the Cooperstown-Oneonta area, where she was employed at Church and Scott Drug Store in Cooperstown for many years. She then managed Sew and Save Fabric Store on Main Street, Oneonta, for 18 years until her retirement. Kay was a seamstress, knitter, and an avid gardener.

She enjoyed the outdoors, her many animals, and spending time with her family. Her pretty red hair, the sparkle in her eyes, and the smile on her face. "Nan"/"Ducks" will be greatly missed.
