She was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Queens, the daughter of Carl Sohl and Ethel (Kurtz) Sohl.

She was first married to Ralph Wells in Queens on Aug. 19, 1939, and then married to Michael O’Connor in February 1978.

She had resided in the area since 1982 and was formerly of Suffolk County.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Suffolk County Crossing Guards Association, and a proud member of the Women’s Group of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Laurens.

She is survived by a son, Mark Charles Wells of Mastic; a son-in-law, Sidney Kaye of New Lisbon; a sister, Delores Stortz of Coral Springs, Fla.; as well as four grandchildren, Christopher, Robert, Jeffrey and Douglas Kaye; one niece; one nephew; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husbands and a daughter, Carol Kaye.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Laurens, with the Rev. Paul Messner officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends in the social hall of the church immediately following the service.

Those who wish are asked to donate to "American Heart Association" Heart Gifts Processing Center, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Henry J. Hallock

WEST ONEONTA — Henry J. Hallock, 79, passed away Sunday morning, March 12, 2006.

He was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Francis and Catherine Hallock.

Henry married Eleanor Donohue on April 19, 1952.

At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served in the South Pacific as a mechanist mate on a mine sweeper.

He joined the New York City Police Force in 1951. He retired as sergeant in 1972 and moved his family to Middlefield Center. While living in Middlefield Center, he established Red Creek Furniture Stripping. Henry and Eleanor moved to Portlandville in 1985 where they owned and operated the Old Mill Shop. His passions were woodworking and restoring antique furniture.

They moved to West Laurens in November of 2005. Henry was an avid reader. Since 1951, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife of almost 54 years, Henry is survived by his daughters, Kathleen and her husband, John Brooks, of Dallas, Texas, Eileen and her husband, Christopher Coryat, of West Laurens, Patricia and her husband, Dennis Hyland, of St. Louis, Mo.; and his son, Joseph Hallock and his wife, Wendy, of Roanoke, Va. He was the grandfather of nine grandchildren, Mary Brooks Fletcher, Sara and Amy Brooks, Erin, Kaitlin and Michael Coryat, Rachael and Benjamin Hallock and Rachel Hyland. He is survived by his sister, Ann Kenney; his sister-in-law, Mary Donohue; many nieces and nephews; and his good friend, John Poggi.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Father John P. Rosson, pastor officiating.

The family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006, to receive friends at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Pioneer St., Cooperstown.

Interment will be later in the Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Henry’s name to the 1000 Book Project at the Laurens Central School, care of Laurens Key Club, 55 Main St., Laurens, NY 13796 or the West Laurens Fire Department, 2766 State Highway 23, West Oneonta, NY 13861.

Arrangements are under the supervision of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Eva N. Clifford

DELHI — Eva N. Clifford, 77, of Delhi, passed away March 11, 2006, in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Marcellus, the daughter of Paul and Julia Nowey.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Clifford of Delhi and Sarasota, Fla.

Calling hours will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

A Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006, in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Delhi, with Father Michael Flannery as celebrant.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

A complete obituary will appear at a later date.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Carol A. Barrett

OTEGO — Carol A. Barrett, 59, of Otego, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Little Falls, the daughter of Loren and Eleanor (Doxstader) Daley.

Carol married Marshall Barrett, who predeceased her in 1989.

Carol loved helping others and worked at Oneonta Nursing Home as a LPN.

She enjoyed baking, gardening, wildlife, playing cards, listening to country music and dancing. But most of all, Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her four children, Vickie Barrett and John Hilts of Garrattsville, Jodie and Christopher Wood of Chenango Bridge, Janet and Michael Goodspeed of Otego and Marshall Barrett and Jessica Surdam of Garrattsville; six grandchildren, Morgan Barrett, Meira Wood, Marissa, Mikey and Zachary Goodspeed and Paige Barrett; her significant other, Lawrence Comstock of Otego; her father, Loren Daley and Harriett Perkins of Little Falls; five sisters and two brothers, Janet Daley of Texas, Alice Comstock of Dolgeville, Gary and Donna Daley of Salisbury, Ellen and Richard Lewandowski of Dolgeville, Betty Hamrick of Texas, Eileen and Mike Kapler of Little Falls and Paul Daley of Salisbury; a half brother, Steven Daley of Batavia; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Maya Wood, and her brother, John Daley.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Jack B. Skinner Sr.

UNADILLA — Jack B. Skinner Sr., 88, of Unadilla, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 30, 1917, son of the late John and May (Beale) Skinner in Greene.

Jack married Marguerite (Polly) Pollard on Sept. 18, 1939, in Oxford. Together they ran a dairy farm for over 40 years.

Jack enjoyed golf and bowling. He was a member of many local leagues. He also liked to watch the Atlanta Braves and did not enjoy the New York Yankees.

He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-laws, Elizabeth and John Siewers, Nineveh, Margaret and Harry Smith, Otego, and Katherine and Jeffrey Newman, Unadilla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack B. and Annette Skinner Jr., Hickory, N.C., and Ronald and Linda Skinner, El Campo, Texas; one sister, Heather Townsend, Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Polly Skinner; great-grandson, Chase Skinner; and two sisters, Gwen Church and Betty Vastano.

Friends may call Friday, March 17, 2006; the family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral service will follow at 8 p.m.

Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery in Greene at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Ruth Reed

WORCESTER — Ruth Reed, 90, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Arrangements are pending with the E.J. Skinner Co., 155 Main St., Worcester.
