He was born May 30, 1916, in Binghamton, the son of William H. and Mary (Foley) Niles.

Frank married Frances Mauro on June 24, 1972, in Queens Village.

He served as a New York City fireman, retiring after 20 years. He was also employed by Pan Am Airways for 20 years. After retirement, he and his family moved to Otego in August of 1985.

Frank was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta and the Knights of Columbus in Nassau County.

He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors, especially walking and hiking, and once hiked Kilimanjaro in Africa.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Niles, of Otego; his children, Dr. William and Maryann Niles of Garden City Park, Marilynn and Norm Bourdon of Unadilla, Kathy and Borough Chief of the FDNY Ed Kilduff of Flushing, Laurie and James Erwin of New York City, Michael and Monica Niles of Oneonta and Kelli Niles and Matt Hafele of Oneonta; grandchildren, Kara and Nicola Capuzzo, Chris Niles, Jeff Bourdon, Patricia Bourdon and Matthew Bell, Daniel Kilduff and Ellen Fryda, Lauren Kilduff, Ethan Niles and Meghan Niles; a great-granddaughter, Maya Capuzzo; a sister, Kathleen Breen of Tewksbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Nora; and two sisters, Jane Korby and Agnes Lee.

Calling hours will be at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home in Oneonta, from 5 p.m. until the funeral service time at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, with the Rev. Victor Owan, associate pastor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego at the convenience of the family.

Donald J. Noonan

ROXBURY — Donald J. Noonan, 88, died peacefully Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his home, Kirkside of Roxbury.

He was born Dec. 28, 1917, to Thomas Hazard Noonan and Eleanor (L’Hommedieu) Noonan in Buffalo.

He graduated from Lafayette High School in Buffalo in June 1936 and from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt., in June 1940. While there, he was a member of the Delta Epsilon Fraternity, the manager of the college baseball team, and the co-author of the 1939 Winter Carnival play.

He worked at Bell Aircraft in Buffalo until joining the United States Army Air Corps in 1944. As a navigator, he served in Europe with the troop carrier command and in the Caribbean with the Air Transport Command. He returned to the Buffalo area where he worked in industry.

Donald married Muriel Reidpath (Sullivan) on April 4, 1942, in Buffalo. They settled on South Lake Street in Hamburg, where they raised four daughters and seven foster children.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Campfire Girls. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and the Hamburg Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed camping, skiing, woodworking, bridge and other card games. He and Muriel played bridge with a special group of friends for more than 50 years.

Donald was predeceased by Muriel, his wife of 62 years.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Ruth Noonan of Oakridge, Tenn.; his brothers-in-law, Richard and Theodore Sullivan of Buffalo; his daughters, Judy (Richard) Was, Patricia (Ronald) Cumming, Barbara (Terry) Riley, and Donna (Robert) Allen, and foster son, Hiram (Lisa) Marin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aimee Vroman and fiance Randy Rathka, Rachel (Rob) Oesch, Toni Cumming and husband Bryan Ludwig, Jess Popp, Stacy (Byrne) Remphrey, Christopher Allen, Benjamin Popp, Tim Riley and Abby Shubert; his great-grandchildren, Joseph and Nicole Vroman, Kaitlyn Cumming, Kelly Ludwig, Riley Oesch, Tyler Remphrey, Ashley Grogen, Emily and Zachary Rathka; and many nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in Donald’s name to Kirkside of Roxbury, 53865 State Highway 30, Roxbury, NY 12474 or the Boy Scouts of America.

A memorial service will be held at Kirkside of Roxbury, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

A memorial service will be held at the Hamburg Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 20, 2006.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Edgar B. Rothstein

HAMDEN — Edgar B. Rothstein, 86, a 30-year area resident, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta.

The son of the late David and Mary (Greenwald) Rothstein, he was born May 14, 1919, in Jamaica, Queens.

A World War II United States Army Air Corps veteran (1942-46) serving in the Pacific, he received his teaching degree from New York University and taught junior high school industrial arts in New York City, retiring in 1974, after which he moved to Hamden.

A man of many talents, Edgar was a gifted lyricist who wrote and published music, once owning two grand pianos. He also possessed a brilliant engineering mind and was a master woodworker and furniture re-finisher.

Edgar could be described as a kind and gentle man, without ill thought or word for anyone. He appreciated the smallest kindness shown him and will be remembered for his infectious smile.

He was predeceased by a sister, Helene Rivorie, and was a first cousin of the late George Burns, noted TV and Hollywood screen actor.

Though he has no immediate survivors, Edgar leaves behind his friends, Daved and Virginia Bell, who cared for him in their DeLancey home for the past six years, and the extended Bell and Shaw family.

Friends are invited to attend graveside services in the Hamden Cemetery, 1 p.m. Thursday, April 6, with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Marjorie Ruth Heidrich

HORNELL — Marjorie Ruth Heidrich, 84, formerly of Sidney, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, in Hornell.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 5, 2006. The family will be in attendance from 6 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney.

Lawrence S. Carey

DELHI — Lawrence S. Carey, 88, formerly of Unadilla and most recently of Delhi, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

He was born March 26, 1918, in Franklin, the son of William and Ethel (Houck) Carey.

He married Yvonne Weatherbe on Aug. 31, 1941, in Treadwell. She predeceased him Feb. 10, 1996.

For a period of 40 years, retiring in 1985, Larry was an inspector at ECD Bendix in Sidney.

He is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan N. Gallo of Unadilla, and Sandra L. and Thomas C. Simmons of Sidney; his grandchildren, Teresa Ann and Edward Copovani of Schenectady, Anthony Gallo of Schenectady, Mark and Tracy Simmons of Unadilla, Ryan Simmons of Walton, and Steven Simmons of Sidney; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Frazier of Fresno, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home of Franklin.

Ruth Reed

WORCESTER — A graveside committal service for Ruth Reed, who died March 14, 2006, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2006, at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester with the Rev. Jane Pykus officiating.

The E.J. Skinner Co. in Worcester is serving the family.
