WALTON A Walton man was arrested Monday and charged with burglary for breaking into a home and injuring a woman, Delaware deputies said.
Benjamin C. Ildefonso, 20, of Pines Brook Road, was charged with felony counts of first-degree burglary and aggravated criminal contempt of court, deputies said Tuesday. He was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of third-degree assault.
Ildefonso was arraigned in Hamden Town Court and was sent to Delaware County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
The charges were the result of an incident that occurred early Saturday morning, according to deputies.
Delaware County Undersheriff Doug Vredenburgh said police were called to a Walton location for a domestic incident at 12:15 a.m. Saturday.
Vredenburgh said a woman who lived at the house had an order of protection prohibiting Ildefonso from being near the home.
When the officers arrived, Ildefonso had already left the scene, Vredenburgh said.
The woman, who suffered minor injuries, including a black eye, was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, where she was treated then released, officials said.
According to Vredenburgh, the injuries sustained by the woman were severe enough to warrant the first-degree burglary charge and the assault charges. The criminal contempt of court charge stemmed from violating the order of protection.
Delaware County District Attorney Richard Northrup said a felony hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. today in the Walton Town Court.
Vredenburgh said deputies had an arrest warrant issued by the Walton Town Court but were unable to locate Ildefonso until 6:25 p.m. Monday.
