SUCO's history in words, pictures

ONEONTA — Time travel isn't necessary to see what the State University College at Oneonta looked like in its early days, thanks to a new pictorial history book documenting its 110 years.

"State University of New York College at Oneonta" has just been released by Arcadia Publishing as part of its "College History Series."

The 128-book, 240-photograph book was written and compiled by David W. Brenner, former Oneonta mayor, Otsego County Board chairman and college official.

Brenner, who is retired, spent last spring and summer searching the college archives and compiling photographs representative of the college's history.

"For me, it was a labor of love and respect for the institution," Brenner said last week.

The book begins with the founding of the Oneonta Normal School and the construction of the "Old Main" building and traces the develop-
