DWI, assault among charges in court
Staff Report
DELHI The following cases were heard in Delaware County Court on Monday:
Michael D. Hinkley, 39, of Sidney was charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated and failure to keep right. The charges stem from an incident that occurred in the village of Sidney on Aug. 4.
Hinkley pleaded innocent. He is free on his own recognizance. His trial is scheduled for March 25.
Celeste R. O'Keeffe, 45, of Arkville was charged with second-degree assault. She allegedly assaulted Richard C. Paradies on Oct. 2. O'Keeffe entered a plea of innocent.
Her attorney, David Roosa, asked that her $3,000 bail be reduced. County District Attorney Richard Northrup said O'Keeffe doesn't have a criminal record and isn't a flight risk, so he agreed to release her on her own recognizance if the judge agreed to issue an order of protection for Paradies.
John Correll of Walton was the subject of a sex offender registry determination hearing. Correll was convicted in Connecticut. Northrup said Correll moved to Walton, which made a hearing necessary to designate a sex offender registry level in New York.
Northrup said Correll's case summary makes him a Level 2 offender, indicating a moderate risk of offending again. County Judge Robert Estes agreed. Correll, who resides on East Street in the village of Walton, was not in court for the hearing.
