Presents dropped at wrong house

Staff Report

Not only did Santa come early to the Wellman residence, he dropped off the wrong presents.

A clear plastic garbage bag containing three neatly wrapped Christmas packages, each meant for someone named Chelsea Foster, was found hanging on a door handle of Ann Marie Wellman's home in Maryland on Wednesday.

Wellman said she has spent the last two days trying to find out who dropped off the gifts.

"My husband and I came home in the early afternoon from shopping to find a package on the doorstep," said Wellman, who lives at 6573 State Highway 7.

Inside the bag, along with the presents, was a white piece of paper, on which was printed "The Foster Family," in bold black letters.

"They're Christmas-wrapped gifts. We know they don't belong to us, and since we don't know who left them, we don't know how to return them," she said.

Wellman said she has contacted area churches, neighbors, the local post office, Opportunities For Otsego and two "Fosters" in the phone book, all to no avail.

Even a call to the Schenevus Central School District, where several of Wellman's own children are enrolled, turned up nothing.

"We've really been trying," she said. "It's funny we're not finding anything because this child has to be somewhere nearby."

The packages, which Wellman believes may be "Secret Santa" gifts, vary in size and wrapping. One, she said, is small and flat and is wrapped in red foil. The other two presents are wrapped differently but both feel as if there may be clothing inside.

"We're just hoping to find out who they belong to," Wellman said, "so Chelsea Foster can have them for Christmas."
