Four charged in Worcester meth probe
Staff Report
An 11-month investigation into the alleged manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine in Worcester has led to the arrest of four Otsego County residents, Otsego deputies said Friday.
Deputies said they obtained a federal search warrant Thursday to search the Worcester home of Kenneth Warren Robinson, 36, and found more than 1/4 ounce of processed methamphetamine.
Also recovered were assorted components used to manufacture methamphetamine; several firearms, including a loaded rifle; and more than a $1,000 in cash.
The bust was conducted with the help of the Capital District Drug Enforcement Task Force, the state police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, deputies said.
Robinson was arrested Thursday on federal charges for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute, and possessing a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime, deputies said.
Cassandra A. Fingado, 24, of Worcester; Meghan B. Dewey, 23, of Cherry Valley; and Richard R. Hammond, 34, of Worcester, were charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, for being in the area of a residence where methamphetamine was present.
Fingado, Dewey and Hammond were arraigned by town of Worcester Justice William J. Nagle and taken to the Otsego County jail, where they were being held on $500 bail.
Hammond, who was later found to have an active clandestine methamphetamine laboratory on his property, was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
Hammond was arraigned again in Worcester Town Court on the new charge. His bail was raised to $35,000. He is scheduled to be back in court at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a felony hearing.
Fingado and Dewey are scheduled to return to court at 7 p.m. April 8.
An investigation into the case is continuing and more arrests are expected, deputies said.
