Woman arrested in custody case
PLAINFIELD A West Virginia woman accused of taking her two children from their father and fleeing to Otsego County was arrested in Plainfield this week, Otsego deputies said.
April Dawn Gibson, 24, of West Winfield, was arraigned Wednesday in Cooperstown Village Court as a fugitive from justice on a West Virginia warrant of arrest for concealment or removal of a minor from custody. The charge is a felony punishable in West Virginia with a penalty of one to five years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.
On March 19, deputies said, Gibson had taken two of her children from their father, who lives in South Charleston, W. Va. She was located Wednesday at a residence in Plainfield.
The children were placed in foster care pending their return to their father in West Virginia.
Gibson appeared Thursday in Otsego County Court, where she waived extradition and was sent back to Otsego County jail without bail.
