Binghamton police look for ex-Franklin resident
Tri-Towns Bureau
A former Franklin woman has been missing since Feb. 18 after she failed to meet her husband outside a downtown department store, Binghamton police said Thursday.
Karen Dishaw and her husband, Thomas, had lived in Binghamton for about five years, friends said.
She was dropped off at Boscov's Department Store about 7:30 p.m. on the Water Street side by her husband, said Binghamton Police Sgt. Arnold Nanni, who is investigating the case.
Thomas Dishaw left without seeing his wife enter the store, Nanni said. She was supposed to be picked up at 9 p.m., but when she didn't appear, Thomas Dishaw went home to see if she had returned, said Nanni.
Thomas came back to Boscov's with neighbors and checked the area until midnight before going to police, Nanni said.
Police have searched the nearby river for Karen Dishaw without success, he said.
Karen Dishaw has been dealing with depression for about 40 years, Nanni said, but stopped taking medication in December. She had attempted suicide about four years ago, he said.
During the investigation, police said they found that before she was taken downtown, she had taken everything of value out of her purse.
She was wearing a red-and-maroon coat, black sweatpants and white sneakers when she was dropped off, police said.
She is 61 years old, stands between five feet-two inches and five feet-four inches tall and weighs between 140 and 150 pounds, police said.
