Police: Ex-student had CD-ROMs involving boys
Staff Report
ONEONTA A former Hartwick College student was arrested Dec. 15 on a felony child pornography charge, Oneonta police said Monday.
Police said Daniel M. Dilauro, 18, of Syosset allegedly possessed two different video clips depicting homosexual acts involving boys among a small collection of CD-ROMs.
Lt. Joseph Redmond said there is no indication the pornography involved anyone from the area.
Redmond said the performances on the disks involved boys that appeared to be 11, 12 or 13 and one of the scenes appeared to have been filmed in the 1970s. The child pornography was mixed with scenes of adult gay males having sex, he said.
Redmond said college officials contacted police about the pornography after it came to their attention. Hartwick officials did not return a call Monday seeking comment.
Dilauro was a freshman at the college, but at the time of his arrest he was no longer a student, Redmond said.
Redmond said Dilauro turned himself in to police.
Redmond said he did not wish to comment on whether the police used a search warrant during their investigation.
According to New York state law, a person is guilty of possessing a sexual performance by a child when the person knowingly has in his or her possession or control any performance that includes sexual conduct by a child younger than 16. Possessing a sexual performance by a child is a class E felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
"This is the first time we’ve ever made an arrest for this," Redmond said.
Dilauro was released on $250 bail and is to appear for an arraignment Jan. 11.
Court officials said he has no attorney on file with the court.
