Business Beat: Iannelli’s no longer in business

An Italian restaurant in Oneonta has closed, making room for a potential chain pharmacy.

Iannelli’s Restaurant closed earlier this month. The Oneonta Planning Commission granted "preliminary approval" to the Walgreens project at its February meeting.

"Iannelli’s Restaurant is now closed permanently," a sign on the main entrance of the restaurant said Tuesday.

Iannelli’s opened in 1993; the most-recent owners, Marton and Margozata Shtaynberger, bought it in 2005. An operator’s message said the number for Iannelli’s was not in service Tuesday. The Shtaynbergers are not listed in the phone book.

"Thank you for your years of loyal patronage," the sign said. "We will miss you."

According to the Otsego County Real Property Tax Office, the last sale of Iannelli’s was in August 2005 to 99 Chestnut LLC.

Information wasn’t available as to whether developers for Walgreens had recently purchased the property.

The 2005 sale was for $500,000, according to the office. 99 Chestnut LLC also received a loan for $700,000 from the Small Business Administration in 2005.

The Walgreens project also calls for the demolition of properties at 95 through 109 Chestnut St.

Wilber completes purchase of mortgage firm

The Wilber Corp. has completed its purchase of a Saratoga County mortgage company, according to a news release from Wilber.

Wilber had announced its plans for Provantage Funding Corp. in December. The company is a mortgage bank. The release said Provantage will keep its identity but will be a subsidiary of the Wilber Corp.

"Provantage offers a very diverse line of mortgage products and the capability to approve and close loans very quickly," Douglas Gulotty, president and chief executive officer of Wilber, said in a prepared statement. "The Wilber Corporation is extremely pleased not only to broaden the service offerings to our current market area of seven counties, but also to enter the capital district in Saratoga County."

Wilber has its headquarters in Oneonta; it is the parent company of Wilber National Bank.
