Business Beat: Regional Visitors Center moves
The Regional Visitors Center "and Stuff" hasn’t left downtown Oneonta _ it has just shifted its location.
The center moved from Main Street to South Main Street the first weekend of March, said Cindy Reynolds, chief executive officer of the MultiSoft Technology Training Center. MultiSoft operates the Regional Visitors Center.
"I really think everything will be fine," Reynolds said. "I really think it’s a better location."
Reynolds said security was the biggest factor in making the move, as there wasn’t really a good way to secure the upstairs location.
"We can now secure the product," Reynolds said Tuesday.
Wilber National Bank owns the building at 254 Main St. where MultiSoft and the visitors center are located. Douglas Gulotty, president and chief executive officer of Wilber, said the company will be putting a Provantage branch into that space. Provantage is a mortgage company the Wilber Corp. recently bought.
Eventually, Gulotty said, people will have access to the center from upstairs. The signs for the center also will stay outside.
"We don’t need that whole space," Gulotty said.
The new center will have a touch-screen kiosk where people can make hotel reservations and find out information about the area. Reynolds said there is better parking in the new location and being near the Clarion Hotel will draw more people to the center.
"There’s so much to do," Reynolds said of the activities in the area. "People need to have one place where they can come (to get information)."
Reynolds said the center will have a "re-grand opening" the first week of June.
The center is open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It will also be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays starting the first weekend of April. The phone number for the Regional Visitors Center is 433-1453.

The Unadilla Chamber of Commerce is having its annual dinner Sunday night, according to a news release. The chamber will recognize two local businesses and an individual.
L&J Consultants, a Web design and hosting company, is receiving the 2007 Business of the Year award, the release from the company said. Brian Danforth, troopmaster of Unadilla Boy Scouts Troop 1, is receiving the Good Neighbor of the Year award, and the Community Pride award is going to Jess F. Howes Building Supplies.
A social hour starts at 4:30 p.m., the release said, and dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. The event will be at the Unadilla House Restaurant at 188 Main St. in Unadilla.
Tickets cost $26; people who need tickets should call Chris Wilson at 563-8600.
Store has supplies
for perfect parties
A party store has opened in downtown Oneonta.
Party Perfect opened in the Clinton Plaza just more than a week ago, owner Cathy Wise said. The shop is next to Wolf Wilde Goldsmith.
"I’ve always wanted to have my own business," Wise said. "I thought the area was in need of a party store."
Wise said the shop carries supplies for birthday parties, weddings and showers. Party Perfect also does custom invitations for weddings and graduation announcements.
"All the graduation supplies and all the school colors are here," she said.
Party Perfect is closed Mondays. It is open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; on the weekends, Party Perfect is open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Wise, of Gilboa, said she is the only employee; her son helps on Saturdays.
"It’s a family business," she said.
Party Perfect’s phone number is 432-2180.
