Business Beat: Market in Cherry Valley expands

A Cherry Valley store is having a grand opening this morning for its expansion.

It’s All Good Grocery has moved to 11 Main St. in the village, owner Cindy Murphy said. The grand opening is at 10 a.m. Murphy said this store is an expansion from the previous business. It has more products and a bigger space. The shop had been at 41 Main St.

"I realized the community had a need," Murphy said. "Everyone wanted a grocery store in town."

Murphy, who runs the store with her husband and son, said they wanted to expand it.

She said the store will have conventional and organic products. It also has take-out food and prepared foods, including panini, coffee, salads and other lunch and breakfast items.

There will be a farmers’ market Fridays, Murphy said.

The store is open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturdays. The phone number for the store is 264-8016.

The Oneonta Sports Park appears to have closed.

According to the Oneonta Code Enforcement office, the park didn’t reopen after last year’s flooding.

It was a seasonal business only open between April and September, according to the Otsego County Tourism website. The park was in the town of Oneonta on county Route 47 near the Emmons exit for Interstate 88.

That website said the park had a driving range, miniature-golf course, batting cages and a snack bar.

A phone number for the park has been disconnected, according to an operator message Tuesday.

Coloring contest deadline approaches

Tuesday is the deadline for a coloring contest at the National Bank of Delaware County.

The contest is open to children throughout the area, according to a news release from the bank.

Children should draw and color what they are saving money for, the release said.

Entries will be judged in three categories: age 2 through preschool, pre-kindergarten through second grade and third grade through fifth grade.

Entry forms are available at the bank’s offices in Walton, Andes, Franklin and Hamden. Entries are due Tuesday, and prizes will be given June 1.

Children _ or their parents _ do not need to be customers at the bank.

Home sales up in Delaware, Schoharie

Delaware and Schoharie counties had more home sales this April compared to April 2006, according to the New York State Association of Realtors.

Sales increased 90 percent in Schoharie County and 62.5 percent in Delaware County, according to the association’s housing survey for April. Schoharie County had the largest increase in the state, with 19 homes sold there in April, compared to 10 in April 2006.

Sales dropped in Chenango and Otsego counties, the survey said.

Otsego County sales fell from 22 homes in April 2006 to 20 homes last month. Sales in Chenango County decreased 8.8 percent; there were 34 homes sold in April 2006 in Chenango County and 31 last month.

The survey only reports homes sold through multiple-listing services; many homes sold in this area are not done through such a service.

Sales dropped about 7 percent statewide, according to a news release from the association.

"The fall-off in April sales following an exceptional March was expected as pent-up demand was relieved earlier than usual," Charles Staro, chief executive officer of the association, said in a prepared statement. "As we enter the typically strong late spring and summer months, the outlook for the market is positive with healthy sales activity and a moderation in sales price."
