Business Beat: Farm to serve meals of local products
Fable, a farm-to-table program at Stone and Thistle Farm in East Meredith, will serve its first dinners June 30.
The dinners are a prix fixe menu costing between $40 and $50, depending on the menu for that week.
According to information from Stone and Thistle Farm, the menu features in-season produce, meat, cheese and locally available products.
"If it is not grown locally, we are not going to use it," said an e-mail from the farm.
Dinner starts at 7 p.m., and a farm tour is at 6:30 p.m.
The menu for June 30 is $40, according to the farm’s website. It includes squab _ a young pigeon _ pavlova and a variety of vegetable preparations.
People need to call 278-5800 to make reservations or for more information. The menu is posted at www.stoneandthistlefarm.com.
Farmers’ Market
to start Tuesday hours
The Oneonta Farmers’ Market adds Tuesdays to its schedule starting next week.
The market will be in Muller Plaza on Main Street between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesdays, according to a news release from the Center for Agricultural Development and Entrepreneurship.
CADE sponsors the farmers’ market.
Vendors will include Thornwood Farm in Sidney Center, Jamaica Dream Farm in Maryland, Boulton Egg Farm and Man in the Moon Herbs, the release said.
The market also is in the plaza between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays.
Honda salesman
receives seventh award
An employee at Scoville-Meno Honda in Oneonta has received another award from the national corporation.
Nick Rizzo, a sales consultant and assistant sales manager, recently received "gold master status" in American Honda’s Council of Sales Leadership, according to a news release from Scoville-Meno. The dealership announced the award earlier this month.
The release said this is the seventh consecutive year Rizzo has received the award.
He has been at the dealership since 1985.
Insurance company awards
three scholarships
Preferred Mutual Insurance Company has given scholarships to three area high school seniors.
The three scholarships are worth a total of $10,000, according to a news release from the company. They come from the Preferred Foundation.
Minda Conroe, a senior at Unadilla Valley Central School, received a $4,000 Irad and Jan Ingraham and Honeywell Memorial Scholarship. The award is given every year to a senior from Unadilla Valley. Conroe will be attending Syracuse University this fall, the release said.
The foundation’s other two scholarships were given for overall academic achievement, according to the release.
Gabrielle Chwazik-Gee, a senior at Norwich High School, received a $4,000 scholarship Chwazik-Gee previously received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and was selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.
Melinda White, the valedictorian at Margaretville Central School, is the first runner-up for the award; she will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
