Business Beat: Milford store sells craft supplies

A craft store has opened in Milford.

Pauline Koren and Melissa Banks are the owners of K and B Craft Supplies at 6 Center St. The store opened a little more than a week ago, Banks said Tuesday.

"We opened because we felt there was a need for craft supplies closer to home," Banks said.

K and B Craft Supplies carries scrapbooking supplies, paints, stamps, stencils, glitter and other supplies. Banks said the shop also has an AccuCut machine.

"We can cut almost anything that can be cut with scissors," she said.

Banks said the shop also has embroidery supplies and various crafting tools. It may offer classes in the future.

The store is open from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is closed Mondays.

The phone number for K and B Craft Supplies is 286-7924.

Sidney Kmart celebrates remodeling

The Sidney Kmart is having a reopening celebration this week, according to information from the local store.

There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Friday. According to Kmart’s website, this store is one of only two in New York that was remodeled. The other one is in Huntington on Long Island.

The store is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.

The new design has wider aisles and new brands and services, according to information from the company. The Kmart also has an Internet cafe with free e-mail access.

Kmart is at 171 Delaware Ave. in Sidney.

Country Store opens in West End

The Country Store has opened at the intersection of Oneida and Chestnut streets in Oneonta.

The gas station and convenience store opened earlier this month. It is at the former location of Hoyle’s Mobil. That station closed in 2004.

Verona Oil Co. in Roscoe owns the station.

Representatives from Verona Oil Co. did not return phone messages left Tuesday seeking comment about the new station.

Company official Dick Verona said last fall the company had bought the station and hoped to have it open by this spring.

NBT hires, promotes employees

NBT Bancorp has promoted one employee and hired another for its risk-management division in Norwich, according to a news release.

Larry Blanchard recently came to the company as the senior vice president of risk management, and Thomas Grasso was promoted to vice president and director of audits.

"We would like to welcome Larry to NBT Bancorp and congratulate him and Tom on their new assignments," Martin Dietrich, president and chief executive officer of NBT Bancorp, said in a prepared statement. "Their extensive experience will help us provide even stronger internal controls and regulatory compliance."

Grasso has been with NBT since 2002, the release said. Blanchard came to NBT from Partners Trust Financial Group in Utica.

NBT Bancorp is the parent company of NBT Bank; both have headquarters in Norwich.
