Congratulations to the taxpayers
in the Cherry Valley-
Springfield school district for
finally realizing we cannot
continue to blindly allow this
school administration and
board to tax us any amount
they please.
We are under no illusion
concerning the altruism of a
board elected solely to support
a school administration, not
making any waves and blindly
following Mr. Savin’s dictates.
You should note that nowhere
has any of the information
sent to you in the mail been
refuted by either the school
board or administration.
Mr. Savin stated he wanted
to make investments for the
students, but when will he realize
the continued increases
in taxes is a burden on the citizens
of the school district?
Education has become big
business and needs to be operated
as such, which includes
retrenchment and reduction
of costs as student enrollment
continues its downward trend.
We hope the taxpayers of the
CV-S school dstrict continue to
realize they are being sold a
fairy story by the school board,
Mr. Savin and the teachers
union as to the real cost of this
school system.

Recycling rules don’t make sense
It doesn’t make sense for Otsego
County to force residents
to buy clear, plastic bags for
recycling. They take 1,000 years
to disintegrate.
Neighbors who used separate
recycling containers to be
dumped directly into compartments
in the truck now must
use clear, plastic bags.
The recyclable plastic bags
from Price Chopper and Wal-
Mart are rejected in Morris.
These Earth-friendly bags take
only two months to decompose.
They are almost clear. Even
using double bags, the printed
matter within is legible.
For decades, Europeans
have had to provide their own
shopping bags as people do at
Aldi’s. Hannaford, for months,
has been giving a 5-cent refund
when using its cloth bags.
In addition, the large trash
bags that must be clear can
contain any type of colored bag
within. People with trash compactors
using dense white bags
have no problem with pickup.
