Throughout the local debate
about wind energy, readers frequently
raise concerns about
wind turbines in their letters.
While it is not feasible to respond
to all of the issues raised
in this space, I would like to
clarify one claim made in a recent
letter.
The reader commented that
the Moresville proposal is simply
the first stage in some hidden
plan to erect turbines on
ridges all over Stamford and
Roxbury. This is simply not
true. The Moresville Energy
Center is designed as a medium-
sized wind farm composed
of a maximum of 33 turbines
spread out over approximately
six miles of ridgelines between
Grand Gorge and Stamford. We
have no plans to expand the
project beyond the current proposal.
On the contrary, as we announced
earlier this year, Invenergy
entered into a binding
agreement with the Roxbury
Association for Environmental
Protection to 1) limit the project
to ridges north and west of
Route 30 (protecting logical expansion
areas) and 2) provide
significant funding for future
efforts to conserve undeveloped
land.
As the developer of the Moresville
Energy Center, Invenergy
is committed to being
responsive to community concerns.
Our office on Main Street
is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1
p.m. Throughout the summer,
a member of our team is also
available the second Saturday
of every month from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m. or by appointment to
accommodate weekend residents.
On July 14, we are hosting
an open house in conjunction
with Stamford Gables and Skylands
Construction from 2 to 6
p.m. at the Stamford Gables. Invenergy
staff will be available
to discuss the project, answer
questions and address residents’
concerns. We encourage
anyone who is interested in the
project or in wind energy to
stop by.
