OHS girls soccer plays for STAC title at U-E today

Staff Report

Oneonta High will play for its first Southern Tier Athletic Conference girls soccer championship since 1984 at 6 p.m. today.

The Central Division champion Yellowjackets (16-1), ranked first in the state in Class B, will play host Union-Endicott (14-2-1) at Ty Cobb Stadium in Endicott. U-E, which won the Metro Division, defeated Seton Catholic Central, 4-2, in a STAC semifinal on Friday. OHS beat Horseheads, 2-0, in the other STAC semifinal on Friday.

Oneonta last won the STAC Championship in 1984, eight years before joining the defunct Susquenango Association. The Sus folded last year with the departure of Oneonta, Windsor and Whitney Point. All three schools joined the STAC this fall. Oneonta's girls won Sus titles in soccer every season it played in the league.

Oneonta will play host to Susquehanna Valley in the first round of the Section Four Class B Tournament on Tuesday. OHS is the No. 1 seed in Class B while SV is the eighth and last seed.
