Sidney boys win non-league game

Staff Report

Garrett Munro scored 28 seconds into the first overtime of Sidney's non-league boys soccer game on Monday, leading the Warriors to a 3-2 victory over visiting Johnson City.

Sidney, ranked 15th in the state in Class C, fell behind, 2-0, with 11:21 left in the first half. The Warriors (12-3-2) scored twice in 5:08, spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.

Scott McCann cut the J.C. lead to 2-1 with 4:08 left in the first half off an assist from Scott Hornung, who tied the score a minute into the second half. Hornung scored from 25 yards out, giving an assist to Tom Mirabito.

Munro converted a pass from Adam Farrell for the victory.

"We took the kickoff and got it in their territory," Sidney coach Steve Hornung said. "It was one of those scrambly plays. They didn't have a lot of defenders back in the box and I don't know where they were, but that wasn't my problem."

Sidney plays host to Lansing in the first round of the Section Four Class D Tournament on Wednesday. The seventh-seeded Warriors play No. 10 Lansing (10-4-2) at 6 p.m.
