Hawks open states with No. 1 seed
At home Wednesday against No. 8 Vassar

Hartwick's field hockey team won't be getting homesick anytime soon.
The Hawks (12-5) received the top seed for the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament, meaning they will have home-field at All-Weather Field advantage throughout the event.
Hartwick opens quarterfinal play against No. 8 Vassar at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The highest seed after quarterfinal play will play host to the semifinals and finals, on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Saturday's semifinals are set for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday's consolation is at 11 a.m., followed by the championship at 1:30 p.m.
The Hawks, who have won NYSWCAA titles in 1996 and 1998, are 4-1 against the other teams in the tournament. Hartwick beat No. 2 Ithaca, 3-1, but lost by the same score to third-seeded Rensselaer.
Defending champion St. Lawrence decided against playing in the tournament this fall.
