Hawks men's soccer falls on road to Penn State, 1-0

Nittany Lions beat Hartwick for first time in five years

Ricardo Villar scored the only goal of Friday's Division I men's soccer game at University Park, Pa., midway through the first half as 24th-ranked Penn State defeated Hartwick College in a non-conference match, 1-0.

The Hawks fell to 7-7 after losing to the Nittany Lions (9-3-1) for the first time in five years.

Villar scored off an assist from Penn State goalkeeper Ryan Sickman, who had two saves. Villar, a first-team All-American two years ago, scored from the corner of the box.

Junior captain Neil McLean had both of Hartwick's shots. The Nittany Lions had 12 shots, including five from Villar.

Randall Moate kept the Hawks in the game with six saves.

Hartwick will play host to No. 18 Syracuse at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore Field.

Hartwick (7-7): None.
