Top-seeded Walton uproots NV, 38-0
Redskins football cruises to big victory in Section Three
Staff Report
Chris Conway led a Walton rushing game that amassed 357 yards as the top-seeded Warriors shut out visiting Newark Valley, 38-0, Saturday in a Section Four Football Conference Class C quarterfinal.
Conway rushed for 114 yards on 15 carries.
Jeff Russell's 17-yard scoring run in the first quarter, along with Jeff Shelton's two-point run made it 8-0.
Kirk Fletcher and Shelton had touchdown runs of 10 and 8 yards, respectively, in the second quarter, which ended with Walton ahead, 24-0.
The Warriors (7-1) held the Cardinals (4-4) to 74 yards rushing on 33 attempts.
Walton will play fifth-seeded Seton Catholic Central (6-2) a 25-7 winner over Elmira Heights on Saturday in the semifinals. The game will be played Saturday at either Binghamton Alumni Stadium or Ty Cobb Stadium in Endicott at a time to be determined.
The Warriors defeated SCC, 36-22, during the regular season.

Cooperstown 34, Lowville 0
Nate Smith rushed for 102 yards and scored three first-down touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Redskins over visiting Lowville in a Section Three Class C quarterfinal.
Smith capped off Cooperstown's first drives with runs of 7 and 12 yards. The Redskins (8-0), coming off a 1-7 season, led 34-0 at halftime.
"We just overpowered them on the line of scrimmage," said Cooperstown coach Steve Pugliese, whose team will play No. 4 seed General Brown (7-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Rome Free Academy in a semifinal. "We ran a lot of off tackle plays."
Bradley Hill had 106 yards on 10 carries for Cooperstown.

Josh DuMond scored two touchdowns and rushed for 186 yards, but the Warriors (2-6) fell to host Windsor (4-4) in a non-league game.
Lindy Crea had two first-quarter touchdowns runs, both from 5 yards out. He also had a two-point run after the second touchdown to make it 14-0.
Each of Windsor's scoring drives came after Sidney fumbles.
DuMond had touchdown runs of 3 and 87 yards in the second quarter, but pass attempts failed on two-point conversion tries failed after each touchdown.
Sidney is scheduled to play host to Waverly at 7 p.m. Friday to finish the season.

Brian Toombs finished fourth Saturday at Ely Park Golf Course, covering the 2.85-mile course in 16 minutes, 27 seconds to help Oneonta to a fourth-place finish the 15-team field.
St. Joseph's of Buffalo won the boys title with 87 points. Union Endicott was six points behind. Oneonta had 139 points.
Sean O'Donnell took 14th place for the 'Jackets. He finished in 17:08.
On the girls side, Rebecca Toombs was 10th for Oneonta in 20:53 and Renae TerBush 18th in 21:24. Oneonta took fifth place with 185 points. Union-Endicott was first with 51.
The Yellowjackets will compete in the Section Four State Qualifier Thursday at Chenango Valley State Park.
