New youth soccer club forming in Oneonta

Staff Report

The Calcio Legends Soccer Club, a youth soccer program focusing on player development, is accepting registration for youth players ages 5-19 of all abilities.

Levels of play range from recreational to competitive and premier in the program, which is attempting to form a "true" club in Upstate New York.

The Calcio Legends Soccer Club is stacked with licensed and experienced coaches and staff members. Among those who will run training clinics are Hartwick College men's assistant coach Gregory Moss-Brown; Oneonta State assistant Mike Ianelli Jr.; former four-year player for O-State Mitchell Waters, who was a three-year captain and All-American; O-State senior soccer player Scott Craig; Hartwick assistant Mark Snell; Oneonta High boys coach Alex Brannan and O-State head coach Iain McIntyre.

The new club will also have a sports medicine medical trainer — Hartwick's Doug Konu — a staff nutritionist, experienced tournament directors and event directors. In addition, Hartwick track and field and cross country coach Joe Dombrowski will conduct speed development training clinics.

The club plans to hold traditional league games in the spring, indoor and outdoor tournaments, training clinics, friendly matches and intersquad games year-round. Soccer-related events such as trips to major league soccer games are also planned.

Try-outs are not required for recreational and competitive levels. The coaching staff will evaluate the abilities of players and place them in appropriate levels.
