B-G edges Delhi in overtime
OHS, Sidney win
Staff Report
Leah DuMond rallied Bainbridge-Guilford to victory Wednesday, hitting a clutch 3-pointer to force overtime as the Bobcats beat visiting Delhi, 48-41, in a key Midstate Athletic Conference girls basketball game.
"I knew this was going to be a war," B-G coach Bob Conway said.
Bainbridge-Guilford, the state's seventh-ranked team in Class C, moved to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in the MAC while sending No. 19 Delhi to a 9-4 overall record and a 4-3 league mark. Sidney (12-0, 7-0), which shares the state's top ranking in Class C, still leads Division I of the MAC.
On Wednesday, B-G faced a 37-34 deficit with 14 seconds left in regulation before DuMond tied the score. Off an inbounds play, DuMond got open on a screen by Kim Diemer and sank a 3-pointer to force overtime.
B-G won the overtime tip, setting up Amanda Bryden for the go-ahead basket. After stopping Delhi, Kimberly Diemer scored to put the Bobcats up by four. B-G won the extra period, 11-4.
"I think that 3 really took the wind out of their sails," Conway said. "We got the tip, came down and Bryden scored on the first possession. Diemer scored on next and we went from there and controlled it."
Diemer scored a game-high 14 points and DuMond finished with 13 for B-G, which plays at Walton on Saturday.
Kaitlin Morley and Kelly Hilson finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, to pace Delhi, which plays host to Sidney on Friday.
