Unatego girls get even with S-E
Staff Report
Unatego scored the game's first 18 points, eight by Jess Hendicks, as the Spartans defeated visiting Sherburne-Earlivlle, 58-24, in a Midstate Athletic Conference girls basketball game Saturday.
Hendricks had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and Erin Perkins scored nine points and had 11 rebounds for the winners, who avenged a 39-30 loss to S-E on Dec. 15.
"I think defensive pressure (was the difference)," Unatego coach Steve Leahy said. "We got a lot of easy baskets in transition."
Kate White scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Spartans, who play at Unadilla Valley on Wednesday.

Amanda Walling scored a game-high 14 points and Kristen Lorence 10 in Unadilla Valley's MAC victory at Harpursville.
Walling had eight points in the first half, helping the Storm to a 24-13 lead at intermission. Crystal Petry had nine points and eight rebounds for the winners.

Tiffany Winn had 23 points as one of nine Bainbridge-Guilford players to score in the Bobcats' MAC victory at Walton. Winn hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter, which ended with B-G leading, 32-13.
Kimberly Diemer had 10 points and Kirby Lodovice nine for B-G, which is 14-1. Jennifer LePinnet had 15 points for Walton.

Cooperstown 36, Westmoreland 24
Rebekah Saxer scored all 12 of her points after halftime of Cooperstown's Center State Conference victory over visiting Westmoreland.
Saxer, an inside player, hit 5 of 9 shots from the field in the second half, when Cooperstown recovered from an 11-8 deficit.
Anne Kennedy had 13 rebounds and Liz May had a positive-10 rating, a system that Cooperstown uses, which is similar to a plus-minus rating in hockey.
The Redskins play host to Mount Markham on Tuesday in a makeup game.

Wrestling
Saugerties Tournament
For the second consecutive weekend, Eric Decker and Dan Fairbairn of Unatego swept outstanding wrestlers honors in a tournament, helping Unatego to a third-place showing at Saugerties.
Decker won the 125-pound title with a pin over Amir Figueroa in 3 minutes, 40 seconds. Fairbairn decisioned Jake Blowers of Broadalbin-Perth, 8-3, at 160.
"Dan's kid was the hardest of the three," Unatego coach John Nealis said of Blowers. "I think he's ranked in the top three in the state."
Fairbairn and Blowers were tied at 3 after one period, but Fairbairn scored backpoints in the second period and had an escape and takedown in the third period.
Decker won outstanding wrester among lightweights and Fairbairn for heavyweights. The two did the same thing last week in the Bulldog Tournament at Delhi.
Jake Fairbairn won the 140-pound title with a pin over Ethan Hevan in 3:10.
For the season, Decker is 22-1, and Jake and Dan Fairbairn are 21-1. Decker and Jake Fairbairn are defending Section Four champions.
The Spartans finished third with 161.5 points. Minisink Valley and Valley Central shared the team title with 232.5.
Unatego has a busy week ahead, playing host to Schoharie on Tuesday, Sidney on Wednesday and Delhi on Thursday.

Delhi senior Kyle Hauptfleisch won his 100th varsity match with a pin over Walton's Brett Wood in the 171-pound final as the Bulldogs finished third in the Liberty Tournament. Hauptfleisch needed 1:37 to win the final.
Teammate Ken Morse won the 275-pound title, pinning John Dekan of Ellenville in 2:57.
Geoff Rosa (96 pounds), Josh Wake (103) and Zach Robinson (135) each finished second for Delhi, which had 124 points. Windsor won with 195.

Sean Clark and Sean Whittaker each made three 3-pointers, helping Delhi put away visiting Sidney in a MAC game Friday night.
Whittaker had a team-high 17 points, Chris Clark had 15 and Sean Clark 10 for the Bulldogs (12-1, 8-0), who have a two-game lead over Walton in Division I of the MAC.
Justin Jedik scored 17 points for Sidney (4-9), which kept things close the entire game.

The Storm handed host Harpursville its first MAC loss of the season behind 16-point performances from Drew Walling and David Mayne on Friday.
UV is tied with Harpursville and Oxford atop the Division II standings with a 4-1 record.
The Hornets were harassed into 20-for-70 shooting from the floor, including 4-for-30 from 3-point range.
Rosario Baio had 10 points for UV.
