O-State women to face Geneseo

Staff Report

The Oneonta State women's basketball team will play host to SUNY Athletic Conference foe Geneseo at 6 tonight, which will be followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.

O-State's women have won four consecutive games to even their record at 8-8. Tonight's game is critical for the Red Dragons, because Geneseo is ahead of O-State in the conference. The Blue Knights are 4-2 in conference. O-State is 5-4.

Geneseo defeated the Red Dragons two weeks ago, 67-56.

Seniors Kristin Lemon and Alena Seabrook have led the way for Oneonta recently. Lemon has averaged 17 points per game over the current stretch, connecting on 16 of 27 attempts from 3-point range. Seabrook has averaged a double-double over the four games with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lemon, named to the ECAC Division III Upstate New York honor roll for her play last week, raised her team-leading scoring average to 16. Seabrook is averaging more than eight rebounds per game.

The men's basketball has won three of its last four games, improving to 10-7. It is in seventh place in the SUNYAC at 3-6.

The Red Dragons lost to Geneseo, 91-81, two weeks ago.

Sophomore Kurt Troyer, named to the ECAC Weekly Honor Roll last week, and junior Shaun Bauer have led the way. Troyer has averaged 17 points per game over the last four, including 28 points in an 88-73 victory over Utica-Rome last Friday. Bauer has averaged 15 points and nine rebounds over the last four games, including 20 points and 13 boards in Tuesday's 82-80 victory over Keuka. Troyer is averaging 17.2 points per game. Bauer is averaging 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per night.

At halftime of both games, the Cooperstown Redskins Jump Rope Club will perform a routine entitled, "Salute to America." The club consists of 95 third-, fourth- and fifth graders.

Wrestling

The wrestling team (7-5) will try to bounce back from its 28-12 loss Wednesday at Cortland, when it plays host to Oswego at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Oneonta won in three weight classes against Cortland, including a 6-0 decision by junior captain Greg Winn — a Bainbridge-Guilford graduate — at 125 pounds. The Lakers come to town as the 18th-ranked team in the latest Division III rankings.

Greg's brother, freshman Dustin, is tied with junior Blaire Surgent for the team lead in victories with nine. Junior Otis Place, sophomore Anthony Carbone and freshman Nick Castellano are next with seven victories apiece in dual-meet competition.

Swimming and Diving

The men's and women's swimming & diving teams will compete in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday at Buffalo State. Brockport State will also compete.

It will be O-State's final meet before the SUNYAC Championships in mid-February.

The men are coming off losses to Cortland and Hartwick last Friday in dual-meet action that left their record at 6-5. The women are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Rensselaer Invitational last Saturday and enter with a 4-7 dual record.

Indoor Track

The indoor track & field teams will travel to the St. Lawrence Invitational on Sunday.

Last weekend the men and women finished fourth at Hamilton College. The top performance for either team on the day was a second-place finish by sophomore Rose Velan in the 400 meters.
