Knapp on track to grab rebound title

Downsville's Cicio named All-American for women's soccer

Staff Report

Merrimack senior center Stacy Knapp is leading Division II women's basketball programs in rebounding as the Oneonta High graduate is averaging 12.8 per game.

Knapp, who became the first 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound women's player at Merrimack on Dec. 20, is approaching the completion of her fourth consecutive season as the rebounding leader of the Northeast-10 Conference.

She is the school's all-time leader in rebounds with 1,114 and her 1,133 points is 29 away from fifth all-time at Merrimack.

Knapp is also eighth in the Northeast-10 in blocks (1.12 bpg), 10th in free throw percentage (77%) and 11th in scoring (13.8 ppg).

Melissa Cicio

Downsville graduate Cicio earned All-American honors as a senior sweeper for the Messiah College women's soccer team. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named Cicio to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-America team, making her the second All-American in team history. Cicio also earned accolades as a first-team selection to the All-Mid Atlantic Region team. The Falcons, who won the Commonwealth Conference title, finished the season ranked 13th among NCAA Division III schools with a record of 17-1-1.

Jeff Ferrara

Sidney native Ferrara, a junior at Cortland State, earned all-state wrestling honors by placing eighth at 133 pounds during the New York State Championships on Jan. 19-20 in Oswego. Ferrara also earned all-state as a freshman, at 125 pounds.

Amanda Laytham

Unatego graduate Laytham qualified for the state and Eastern College Athletic Conference championships in two events at the Cornell Invitational on Jan. 19. Laytham was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:22.38) and finished second in the mile (5:11.70).

Matt Miller

Oneonta High graduate Miller scored a team-best 15 points, but his Ithaca College men's basketball lost its first conference game, 82-60, to Elmira last Tuesday. Miller is a senior guard for the Bombers.

Janelle Tauzel

Worcester native Tauzel had nine points in Keuka's 66-40 women's basketball victory over RIT at the JP Morgan Chase Scholarship Tournament last week. She also scored a team-high 17 points for the Storm in a 60-58 loss to St. John Fisher.
