Worcester girls edge Schenevus, 41-39

Cooperstown girls fall to Canastota in key CSC volleyball match

Worcester 41, Schenevus 39

Erica VanWormer and Bethany Head combined for 11 points in the first quarter as Worcester jumped to a 17-11 lead and held on for a Tri-Valley League victory on the road.

Selinda Schlierman converted two free throws with 30 seconds to play, giving Worcester the lead by the final margin. Head and VanWormer paced Worcester with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Heather Henderson led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Schenevus (5-9, 3-3), which got 10 rebounds from Carrie Mathis. Schenevus plays host to Morris on Friday.

Davenport 45, Stamford 39

Lia Blue (10 points) and Lara Leonard sealed a Delaware League victory for Davenport at the foul line as both went 2-for-2 in the last 30 seconds for the final margin.

Stamford (10-7, 5-6), led by Kristin Stammel's 11 points, fell behind by 10 points in the third quarter, but rallied to cut the Wildcats' advantage to three with about a minute to play.

Jessica Sellevold paced Davenport with 12 points. Heather Amadova contributed 10 for Stamford, which plays at Hunter-Tannersville on Friday.

South Kortright 66, Gilboa 29

Lindsay Perry scored 15 points and Ashlei Kenchen added 13 as the visiting Rams bounced back from last week's loss to Davenport by beating Delaware League opponent Gilboa.

South Kortright (15-1), which fell from second to eighth in this week's Class D rankings, also received 13 points from Elizabeth Rappleyea.

Jennifer Oliver had 10 points for Gilboa (7-8), which plays host to Jefferson on Friday.

Stacey Latella scored a season-high 15 points and added five steals to lead host Jefferson to a Delaware League victory.

"She pretty much set the pace for us tonight," Jefferson coach John Toroni said. "She's my only senior starter so she really helps the younger players."

Chelsea Dunphy led Downsville with 11 points.

Jefferson (8-7) is at Gilboa on Friday.

Senior Theresa Mallory scored a varsity-high 12 points for Windham, which plays host to Germantown on Friday.

Volleyball

Canastota 3, Cooperstown 1

Host Canastota clinched its sixth straight Center State Conference crown with a 30-23, 28-30, 30-27, 30-25 victory over Cooperstown.

Canastota, which has won 43 straight matches and has not lost at home in six seasons, improved to 19-0 overall and 13-0 in the CSC.

Suzanne Clarvoe had 40 assists and 13 kills for the Redskins, who fell to 18-2 overall and 10-2 in the CSC. Carolyn Clarvoe contributed 19 assists and 18 kills for Cooperstown.

Wrestling

UV 33, S-E 19

Brandon Benson sealed a Midstate Athletic Conference victory for the host Storm with a pin of Kyle Campbell at 119 pounds. Benson's pin in 3:20 put UV ahead, 27-19, with one match remaining as the meet started at 130 pounds.

Gary DuVall followed with a 2:23 pin of Sherburne-Earlville's Jesse French, helping Unadilla Valley to finish 5-0 atop Division II.

The Storm (5-1-1 overall) wrestles in the MAC Tournament on Saturday at Bainbridge-Guilford High.
