O-State falls short against Ithaca

Staff Report

Ithaca College won four of the first five matches Wednesday night en route to a 21-15 non-conference dual-meet victory over host Oneonta State at Chase Gymnasium.

The Red Dragons' Nick Castellano had one of two pins in the meet, winning the 197-pound match over Bryan Pettit in 1 minute, 58 seconds. Castellano's victory pulled O-State (7-7) within 12-9 before Ithaca (8-6) won the next two matches.

Oneonta opened a 3-0 lead with a victory by Anthony Carbone in the first match. Carbone won a 4-3 decision over Casey Beach at 149 pounds, giving the Red Dragons their only lead of the night.

Ithaca won the next four before Castellano's pin, which marked the second straight match he won by fall. O-State's Matt Rocco lost by pin at heavyweight and Bainbridge-Guilford graduate Greg Winn dropped a 5-3 decision at 125 pounds as the Bombers took a 21-9 lead with two matches remaining.

Oneonta's Joe Sanders and Dustin Winn, Greg's brother, closed with victories by decision.

The Red Dragons wrestle at 1 p.m. Saturday against visiting Rochester Institute of Technology.
