Water polo finishes 2-1 at Princeton; freshman breaks weight-throw record

Staff Report

Tiffany Hurley became Hartwick's second 1,000-1,000 player Saturday night during the Hawks' 52-41 women's basketball victory over Nazareth at Binder Gymnasium.

Oneonta High graduate Hurley, playing with an injured foot, had 12 points and eight rebounds in the Empire 8 victory, which helped Hartwick qualify for the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

Hurley has 1,308 points and 1,006 rebounds all-time at Hartwick heading into the NYSWCAA Tournament, which opens for the fourth-seeded Hawks (13-11, 9-5) at 8 p.m. Friday at No. 1 Ithaca College.

No. 2 Mount St. Mary plays No. 3 Nazareth in a 6 p.m. semifinal. The NYSWCAA championship is slated for 4 p.m. Saturday.

Hartwick Athletic Hall of Famer Sally Gangell is the only other Hawks player to break 1,000 in both categories. She finished with 1,921 points and 1,145 rebounds.

Hurley, the Empire 8 Player of the Year last season, is sixth all-time in scoring, second in rebounding, seventh in blocks (75) and sixth in steals (148).
