Wanted: Finalists for Section Four championships

The Section Four basketball championships are looking for a few good teams.
Times and sites are set for three sectional finals that will definitely feature at least one local team, as is the case for a fourth championship that could include the Unadilla Valley boys basketball team.
Oneonta High’s girls will be the first area team to compete in a sectional final as the third-seeded Jackets meet No. 4 Elmira Southside for the Section Four Class A title at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Broome County Arena.
Both teams advanced to the championship with semifinal upsets Friday. Oneonta (16-4) beat No. 2 Owego, 51-33, and ESS (11-9) dropped No. 1 Corning East, 55-47.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]The Section Four Class D girls championship, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Arena, will feature two local teams. Finalists will emerge from today’s semifinals at Delhi Tech as No. 3 Milford (19-3) opens the double-header at 6 p.m. against No. 2 South Kortright (18-3). Milford is the reigning Tri-Valley League champion.
Fourth-seeded Davenport (17-5) plays No. 1 Downsville (20-2) in a rematch of the Delaware League championship at 7:30 p.m. Downsville won the DL title, 48-41, on Feb. 11 at Delhi Tech.
At least one local boys team will make it to the Section Four Class D championship, slated for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Arena.
No. 6 Laurens (19-3) plays top-seeded Davenport (19-2) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oneonta High in a Class D sectional semifinal. The Delaware League champion Wildcats beat Tri-Valley League champ Laurens, 60-43, on Dec. 20 in the opening round of the Lee Fisher Tournament at Davenport.
The Wildcats went on to beat Worcester, one of the other semifinalists, 51-39, in the Fisher title game Dec. 23. Fifth-seeded Worcester (17-4) meets No. 1 Newfield (17-2) in the other semifinal at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Greene. The game starts a double-header at Greene as Unadilla Valley and Union Springs follow at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a Section Four Class C semifinal.
The third-seeded Storm (19-4) will play No. 7 Union Springs (16-5) for the first time this season Wednesday. UV advanced with a 72-53 thumping of No. 11 Lansing on Saturday. Union Springs earned its semifinal spot with a 66-64 overtime defeat of No. 2 Elmira Notre Dame on Saturday.
Wednesday’s winner advances to meet No. 4 Watkins Glen (15-5) or top-seeded Seton Catholic Central (17-3) for the Class C sectional title at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Arena. Watkins Glen and Seton play their semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Waverly.
Also Wednesday, Cooperstown’s boys will play Herkimer at 7 p.m. at Rome Free Academy in the Section Three Class C-1 championship. Cooperstown, the top seed in C-1, fell to Herkimer, 62-60, on Jan. 28.
Wednesday’s winner advances to the overall Section Three Class C championship against the C-2 winner Sunday at Manley Field House in Syracuse.
