Simonds, Guerriere advance to state

Sidney’s Pat Simonds and Katelyn Guerriere won titles Friday at the Section Four Indoor Track State Qualifiers at Cornell.

The two will join teammate Nick Kozak and Oneonta’s Will Anger, Bryan Bordinger, Tom Vogler and Irene Primmer at the state meet, which starts at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Simonds won the high jump at 6-foot-5 and Guerriere placed first in the 55-meter hurdles, in 8.4 seconds. The top two finishers in individual events earned berths to states, along with any third-place finisher who met a qualifying standard during the season.

[an error occurred while processing this directive]Kozak and Bordinger both qualified in the 55 dash, finishing second (6.5 seconds) and third (6.5), respectively. James Massar of Johnson City won in 6.4.

Anger qualified in the shot put (second, 44 feet, 11½ inches) and Vogler in the 600 (third, 1:27.6). Primmer made it in the high jump, placing second at 4-8.

SECTION FOUR STATE QUALIFIERS

Results Friday from the Section Four Indoor Track State Qualifiers at Cornell. Winners followed by area athletes finishing in the top six. Top two finishers in individual events and third-place finishers who met the qualifying cut earlier in the season advanced to the state meet, slated for 9 a.m. Sunday at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Relay winners Friday also advanced to states.
