Hartwick cruises at Northerns
Outscores opponents, 57-13, en route to fifth straight crown
HARTWICK COLLEGE WOMEN’S WATER POLO
The 13th-ranked Hartwick College women’s water polo team finished where it started Sunday at the CWPA Northern Championship in New London, Conn.
The top-seeded Hawks won their fifth straight Northern crown with an 11-4 victory over No. 2 Brown in Sunday’s championship at Connecticut College.
Hartwick (26-8) advanced to the final with a 14-5 semifinal thumping of No. 3 Harvard on Sunday. On Saturday, the Hawks opened with a 15-1 rout of fifth-seeded Queens College, followed by a 17-3 drubbing of No. 4 Connecticut College.
Freshman defender Bronwen Knox paced Hartwick in the championship with three goals and two assists. She also contributed two steals an[an error occurred while processing this directive]d one drawn ejection for the Hawks, who took a 7-2 lead into halftime.
Sophomore utility Keri James had three goals and one assist, and senior driver Kate Chambers finished with two goals, four assists, three steals and two drawn ejections.
Sophomore goalie Olivia Colebourne finished with 10 saves and one steal.
Knox had seven goals, four steals and two assists in the semifinal for Hartwick, which led Harvard, 6-2, at the half. Chambers contributed two goals, two assists and two steals, and Colebourne had eight saves and five steals.
Hartwick travels to Indiana University to defend its CWPA Eastern Championship next weekend.
