Oneonta State junior softball pitcher Amy Herba was named the SUNY Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

Herba (10-4) went 3-0 this past week, including a nine-inning shutout of first-place Cortland on Saturday. She allowed seven hits and struck out eight in the 2-0 victory.

Herba also won games against Oswego and Hartwick. She had a 0.35 ERA in 20 innings, striking out 12.

O-State also named Keith Horn and Musu Jackson-Buckner its athletes of the week Monday.

Junior Horn led the men’s lacrosse team to two road victories. In a 10-7 triumph over Elmira, he scored four goals. He fo[an error occurred while processing this directive]llowed with three goals and an assist in a 9-5 victory over Oswego.

Horn is second in scoring for the Red Dragons (7-6, 2-2) with 20 goals and seven assists.

Jackson-Buckner won two events Saturday at the Oneonta State Invitational, helping the Red Dragons to the team title. She won the 100 (11.8 seconds) and the 200 (24.7).

Jackson-Buckner, who won the SUNY Athletic Conference championship in the 200 last season, will attempt to defend it this weekend as O-State plays host to the conference championships Friday and Saturday.

• Oneonta State men’s soccer player Luke Kitchen and Cobleskill track athlete Emily Bertier were awarded the Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Award by State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King for having a grade point average of 3.58 or higher.

Bertier earns Region III honor

Bertier also earned the Region III Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 18.

Bertier qualified for the NJCAA Division III Championships in the 10,000 with a time of 40 minutes, 28.5 seconds at the Bison Invitational at Bucknell University. Bertier’s time is the fastest for a female in NJCAA D-III this spring.

The championships run May 12-14 at Delhi Tech.

Golf

Hartwick Invitational

Delhi Tech’s Eric Sharf shot a two-day total of 146, but lost on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff at the Oneonta Country Club on Monday.

Roberts Wesleyan’s Dave Chong won the playoff to earn medalist honors.

Delhi won the team championship with a 602. Roberts Wesleyan was second with a 613, and Hartwick placed third at 615.

Vernon Gorgrant finished tied for fourth with a 149, and Matt Hryb tied for seventh with a 153 for the Broncos.

Brad Bentley tied Gorgrant for fourth at 149 to lead Hartwick. Tim Chases was 10th at 154.

Trevor Pearson-Leary and Kyle Haynam had five goals apiece to lead visiting Morrisville to a Mountain Valley Conference victory.

Tom Cunningham had four goals and an assist for Cobleskill (0-9), which plays host to Mohawk Valley CC at 4 p.m. Thursday.
