| p of the eighth inning Monday to earn a 9-7 Center State Conference baseball victory over host Cooperstown at Doubleday Field.
The Indians had runners on second and third with two out when one if their batters hit a high pop-up between home plate and the pitcher’s mound.
No Cooperstown infielder called for the ball, and it dropped to allow the go-ahead run to score. Sauquoit added two more runs in the inning for a 9-6 lead.
[an error occurred while processing this directive]Zack Sittler, who relieved at the start of the eighth, suffered the pitching loss.
"Sittler was the victim of a pop fly that wasn’t handled correctly," Cooperstown coach Frank Miosek said. "It was a sky ball. It was so high and it was raining and dark. Just a pop-up that didn’t get handled correctly."
The Redskins led, 6-5, in the top of the seventh, but Sauquoit rallied with two out.
Jaime Lyons singled and moved to second when starting pitcher Andrew Pohl walked Donato Fpina. A passed ball on catcher Philip Pohl advanced the runners to second and third. Lyons scored on a wild pitch to force extra innings.
Andrew Pohl struck out six and walked four in seven innings.
"Maybe I should have pulled Pohl earlier, but I wanted him to finish," Miosek said. "I thought he was in control. The last three batters had two strikes on them."
Lyons finished 2-for-4 to lead Sauquoit (6-1 overall, 2-1 CSC). Nick McRorie struck out six and walked four in a complete-game victory.
Ian McGilliray and Eddie Bauer had two hits apiece for the Redskins (4-2, 0-2), who play at Sherburne-Earlville at 4:30 p.m. today.

The Dragons trailed, 7-3, after four innings.
"The sixth inning, the walls came crumbing down," Milford coach Jim Dutcher said. "One of these days, we’ll put a full game together. Five innings we played strong, then the wheels fell off and they started hitting the ball.
"We put people on at the wrong time," he continued, "and, basically, a few hits here and there and there you go."
