B-G/A girls make history at MAC relays

MAC Relays

The Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton girls won the Midstate Athletic Conference relays for the first time, edging Sidney by 10 points in a 10-team meet at Walton on Tuesday.

Coach Robb Munro’s Bears had 77 points to hold off the Warriors, who are coached by Bill Munro, Robb’s father. Sidney topped B-G/A on the boys’ side, 86-82.

"I had a lot of young girls do some phenomenal things today," Robb Munro said. "I told our boys and girls that if[an error occurred while processing this directive] everyone ran to their abilities, we had a shot. It’s exciting to see.

"(Going against my father) makes it more fun," he continued. "We work a lot with each other, so I think the kids really benefit because they get expertise from more coaches."

The B-G/A girls took first in five events — the 400 relay, 1,600 relay, 800 relay, sprint medley relay and discus. Freshman Brittney Fahringer helped four of those teams win, and sophomore Marcie Day and freshman Bethany Norris were each on three teams.

Sidney’s boys finished first in seven of 14 events. Matt Miner competed on four first-place teams — the shuttle hurdles, 800 relay, 1,600 relay and high jump. Ryan Keller, Mike Hinsch, Aaron Zurn and Alex MacLean each helped win two events.
