Area Sports Briefs Danielle 5K Run/Walk set for Sunday
The 14th annual Danielle 5K Run/Walk will be held Sunday at MacArthur Park in Binghamton.
The event is sponsored by the Broome County STOP-DWI program. The 5K run begins at 10 a.m. and the 5K walk at 11 a.m. Entry cost is $15.

Youth baseball tryouts start Sunday
The Binghamton Warriors 15-and-under AAU travel baseball team will hold tryouts from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Chenango Valley High. Play will not interfere with Legion baseball, with the possible exception of tournaments.
Players who turn 16 before Aug. 1 are not eligible.

Softball league to hold meeting Sunday
The final meeting for the Sunday Morning SoftballLeague will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Copper Fox in Oneonta.
Team captains or representatives must attend with league entry fee. Failure to attend the meeting will eliminate the team from this year’s schedule.
New teams interested in joining or individuals interested in playing are welcome to attend the meeting.

All-County Softball School to run in June
Oneonta resident John Speranzi will play host to the All-County Softball School for girls in grades 6-12 from June 26-29.
Speranzi is the associate head softball coach at Oneonta State. His school will focus on pitching, hitting and fielding fundamentals.
Cost is $25 and registration must be received by June 24. The event runs from 1-4 p.m. June 26 and from 9 a.m.-noon on June 27 and 28.

Summer swim program in Delhi set for June
The SUNY Delhi summer swim program for children and adults begins June 27.
Community swimming lessons run from 9 a.m.-noon in the Kunsela Hall pool. Classes include American Red Cross Levels I-VI, Basic Water Rescue, infant/toddler/preschoolers program and diving. Swim team practice is also available.
Village/town residents of Bovina, Delhi and Meredith should contact their village clerk to register for free enrollment. Town of Hamden residents should contact their town clerk to register for one three-week session, with a cost of $10 per child. Proof of residence is required.

Water aerobics classes run from 4-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays during the summer session at a cost of $40 per person. Swim practices run from noon-1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, followed by lap swim from 1-3 p.m. and open swim from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Open swim is available from 5-6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays as well.

Women On Target coming to Oneonta
The National Rifle Association’s Women On Target program is sponsoring an instructional shooting clinic for women at the Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.
Cost is $25 per person. Firearms, ammunition and eye/ear protection will be provided by the club.

Junior Golf Association membership drive set
The Northeastern New York PGA will conduct a junior membership drive from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Saratoga Spa Golf Course and Western Turnpike Golf Course.
Juniors and/or parents will have the opportunity to obtain more information on junior activities within the NENY PGA Section for the 2005 season and to register for the NENY PGA Junior Golf Association.
Boys and girls ages 8-17 who live within the NENY Section PGA boundaries may join the NENY PGA Junior Golf Association. Only members of the NENY PGA JGA will be able to compete and have the chance to play with other junior members on the NENY PGA Junior Golf Tour. The tour consists of seven events, most taking place in the Albany area.

Chenango Soccer Club sets schedule
The Chenango Chargers Soccer Club has announced its 2005 tournament schedule.
The schedule features six weekends of tournament play at the David L. Emerson Soccer Farm in Oxford, located six miles south of Norwich on state Route 12.
Each weekend bracket features single age-groups for boys and girls. Three weekends will be scheduled for club-level teams and three for premier teams.
May 7-8: U-16 and U-17 boys and girls premier.
May 21-22: U-11, U-12 and U-13 boys and girls club.
June 11-12: U-14 and U-15 boys and girls club.
June 18-19: U-14 and U-15 boys and girls premier.
July 2-3: U-17 boys and girls club.
Aug. 13-14: U-11, U-12 and U-13 boys and girls premier.

Adult baseball league seeking players
The Leatherstocking Men’s Baseball League is seeking players of all abilities for the upcoming season, which begins in mid-May and runs through early August.
Games are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and will be played in Cooperstown, Milford, and Oneonta.

River Ride set for June 4
The fifth annual River Ride for Hunger and Homelessness, a 46-mile cycling ride, starts at 8 a.m. June 4 at the Neahwa Park Skate House.
Pre-registration by May 21 is recommended. Entry cost is $10 for individual cyclists, $25 for families and $55 for groups of five or more. Late fees will be assessed after May 21.

Delhi 10K run slated for June 11
The Delhi Covered Bridge 10K run starts at 9:30 a.m. June 11 on Main Street near Clinton Street in Delhi.
The top three male and female finishers will receive U.S. Savings Bonds donated by the Delaware National Bank for $200, $100 and $50, respectively. Trophies will be awarded to the top males and females the 13-and-under, 13-19, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60-69 age-groups. The first 150 runners registered will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt.
Registration fee is $10 in advance and $15 from 8-9 a.m. on race day. All proceeds go to The West Branch Recreation and Aquatics Center.

Delhi bicycle time trial June 11
A bicycle time trail is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. June 11 in Delhi, starting on Elm Street in front of the Town Clerk’s Office. Riders will be sent off at one-minute intervals over a 13-mile loop through Delancey.
The fastest male and female finishers earn $20, and $15 will be awarded to male and female age-group winners in the 12-15, 16-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, and 71-and-over age-groups. The top tandem team will win $30, and first-place finishers in male and female mountain bikers will win $15.
Helmets are required and riders must be age 12 or older on the day of the event. The first 50 riders registered will receive free long-sleeved T-shirts.
Registration fee is $10 in advance and $15 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on race day. All proceeds go to The West Branch Recreation and Aquatics Center.

Del Anthony basketball to start June 12
The seventh annual Del Anthony Basketball Classic starts June 12 for players ages 18 and older. Entry fee is $500 and deadline is May 29, with a late charge of $50 assessed thereafter. For more information, call Del 607-267-9174.

Summer soccer league starts June 13
The Race Investigation Adult Summer Soccer League in Oneonta is accepting teams and players.
The league begins play June 13 and runs until August 5. There will be a men’s and women’s division for ages 17 and up. All games will be played on the Swart Wilcox Fields behind Riverside Elementary School.

Headwaters golf tournament coming June 18
The Headwaters Soccer Club’s 12th annual Charity Gold Tournament will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at the Stamford Country Club.
The proceeds will benefit the soccer camp scholarship fund for needy needy children.
The tournament uses a scramble format, and you can register as a team or an individual. The fee is $25 for members and $35 for everyone else and includes green fees, golf towel, and buffet. Carts can be rented on a first-come, first-served basis.
First-, second- and third-place teams receive awards.

Headwaters soccer camp ready for 16th year
The Headwaters Soccer Club Summer Camp is set to celebrate its 16th anniversary this summer, and 2005 brochures are available.
Seven camps will be held for boys and girls ages 7-17 beginning the week of June 27 and running until Aug. 12. Sessions run 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Instructors include area college coaches, high school coaches and college players.
The cost is $60 per week and each participant will receive a T-shirt and water bottle.
